Floyd Mayweather Donates Massive Sum to Help Hurricane Harvey Victims.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is showing his support for the victims of the
Hurricane Harvey by making a massive donation to the city of Houston. The 40-year-old boxing legend is donating $200 million to help rebuild the most populous city in the state of Texas after it was devastated by more than 50 inches of rain.
The announcement was made on Tuesday that Mayweather's donation will be used through his foundation. He travelled to Houston in order to ascertain the damage caused by the hurricane and was then prompted to make a huge financial contribution to help the victims.
"It is a humanitarian gesture, an act of solidarity and support for a brotherly affected people," the undefeated boxer said.
"My thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters in Houston. My initiative is donating $200m to the entire Houston community to assist and house victims of the devastating flood that has rendered people homeless. The fund is intended to provide shelter, food, clothing, and medicines," he said, according to
Houston News.
The flood damage is expected to cost the city tens of billions and there are concerns that Houston residents could suffer longer-term health issues after being caught up in the muddy waters.
