University of Florida coach Billy Donovan is denying a report that he will resign as Gators head basketball coach and take the position at Kentucky vacated by Billy Gillispie.
"In response to the rumors circulating about my interest in other jobs, I wanted to address this as quickly as possible," Donovan said in a statement. "I am committed to the University of Florida and look forward to continuing to build our program here."
The Fox television affiliate in Orlando, citing a source close to the Kentucky basketball program, reported that Donovan will resign from Florida to take the Kentucky job.
Donovan led the Gators to back-to-back NCAA Tournament titles in 2006 and 2007. He was courted for the Kentucky job two years ago but turned it down at that time. He also agreed to become the head coach of the Orlando Magic after the Gators' 2007 championship run but abruptly changed his mind and returned to the Gators.
Kentucky announced on Friday afternoon that it would not bring Gillispie back as head coach, but did not say who would take over the program.
