there are pristine beaches, warm weather 12 months a year, safer food and water, better scenic locations, better law enforcement right here in the good old u.s.a. no need to ever go to a crap hole 3rd world country like costa rica and end up just staying in the gated resort (which are nice but hire locals who will rob and steal if given an opportunity) venturing out and exploring the unknown areas outside of that resort is not advisable unless you have a reliable escort or driver. it makes more sense to go on a cruise ship and risk salmonella if you must leave the continental u.s.a. what is in costa rica that draws people there. tony from 5dimes now wishes he never went there to live and work. stay out of that crap hole country and any other dominican, puerto rican, central american, so american countries. if you run into trouble the authorities there could care less.

You’re not missing much besides him quoting and talking to himself in the RR...

Does he still attack you too?

Yep. He’s added 5teamparlay to his list just for simply being an offshore poster who keep it lively, and busterhyman. They haven’t gotten threads started about them like me and you yet, but I’m sure it’s coming...No doubt, dude is a straight up looney...

you are missing on a lot of nice places thinking ike that. Like BAS said, law enforcement is 10x better in the usa, but does it make any difference once you are already dead? the only thing is that they could catch the killer or solve the murder faster than down here. There is a reason 5dimes Tony had to come down here to build his business since he couldn't do it back in the usa. If you haven't been here before then you have nothing to base your judgement. Sure there's a lot of ppl trying to get advantage of the dumb gringo tourist coming down here but the same can be said of ppl in the USA trying to to do the same to tourists coming into the USA. It is your POV and I respect it but I would tell you to get out more and experience things yourself. It's a shame what happened to this woman and to tony, but murders happen all over the world.

Missing tourist Carla Stefaniak’s body identified in Costa Rica

A dead body found in Costa Rica was identified on Tuesday as a missing Florida woman, a report said.

The remains of Carla Stefaniak, 36, were discovered near the Airbnb where she had been staying in the Central American country, according to Florida’s WPLG-TV.

A 32-year-old man was arrested for her murder, the station said.

Stefaniak had traveled to Costa Rica to celebrate her 36th birthday, relatives said.

The last time her family heard from her was the night of Nov. 27 when she texted her sister-in-law that the lights were going on and off.

“It’s pretty sketchy here,” she wrote in a text.

Her body was found by cadaver dogs on Monday partially buried in the ground and covered with plastic bags behind the apartment complex that housed her Airbnb.

Blood was found inside the apartment.

The man arrested for the killing had worked at the apartment complex, the station said.

the guy they arrested was private security. which as I said in a earlier post is a joke. and reminds of the time when in the same area there was a home invasion/robbery where they had 3-4 guards at this complex . later to find out the guards were paid off to allow them in

and most of you believe that costa rica is a fine place to go on vacation. the cottage industry down there is to rob, rape and if necessary kill any american tourist who sets foot in that hell hole. every swank resort there has employees looking for an opportunity to commit crimes against tourists and it happens daily. so if you enjoy having to look behind your back everywhere you go there then by all means book your trip to the tropical hell hole costa rica.

She thought she was heading to a paradise vacation in Costa Rica, a safe place to ring in her 36th birthday. Instead, Carla Stefaniak vanished last week, never making it back home alive.

Authorities in Costa Rica said Tuesday they found what appears to be the body of the missing Hallandale Beach woman. Her body, covered in plastic bags, was discovered Monday about 300 yards from the Airbnb where she stayed.

Authorities have detained a 32-year-old security guard named Bismarck Espinosa Martinez in connection with her death, said Walter Espinoza, director general of Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Department. Officials zeroed in on him late Monday after noting several contradictions in his story about Stefaniak’s disappearance, Espinoza said.

Martinez left his homeland in Nicaragua in June to work as a security guard in Costa Rica. He lived on the same property where Stefaniak was staying. He was in Apartment No. 7. Stefaniak was in Apartment No. 8.

Espinoza shared no details on what police uncovered, other than to say they’ve reviewed surveillance footage and interviewed anyone they could find who had contact with Stefaniak.

He did reveal that Stefaniak appeared to have several injuries, including a blow to the head.

Investigators performed an autopsy Tuesday, and plan to work with the FBI to match fingerprints to formally confirm the body belongs to Stefaniak.

“This is a complex, difficult case, and we’re doing all that we can within our ability to solve the case,” Espinoza said at a news conference. “It’s very important for the country and it’s very important for the victim’s family and for our society in general.”

Stefaniak chose to travel to Costa Rica because it’s been portrayed as a paradise where nothing bad happens, according to her best friend.

But on Monday, a body was found in a wooded area near the Airbnb property where Stefaniak was staying in Escazú, San José. And Tuesday morning, her family was at the morgue to help identify the body.

The body was badly decomposed, making it difficult to identify. Carlos Caicedo, Carla’s father, had his blood drawn Tuesday to help determine whether the body belonged to his daughter.

“I have hope that the body found is not my daughter’s,” he told reporters before his worst fear was confirmed.

“We are really really hoping it [is not her],” said Hallandale Beach resident Laura Jaime, Stefaniak’s best friend and former roommate. “We have faith.”

Stefaniak, who moved to Hallandale Beach three years ago, was last heard from on Nov. 27 — five days after landing in Costa Rica.

She was scheduled to fly home at 1 p.m. the next day, on her birthday. She checked in for her flight but never boarded the plane.

“Costa Rica is portrayed as paradise that’s safe for Americans,” Jaime said. “Nothing happens there. That’s why she picked Costa Rica, ironically.”

Stefaniak arrived in Costa Rica on Nov. 22 with her sister-in-law, April Antonieta Burton. Her companion flew home to Tampa a day early to get a better deal on the airfare, Jaime said.

Jaime headed to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Nov. 28 to pick up the birthday girl and take her out for a celebratory dinner.

“I just had a weird feeling even before I got to the airport,” Jaime said. “Carla is always on the phone. I started sending her birthday messages and no one had heard from her at all. That’s very unlike her.”

When Jaime got to the airport around 5 p.m., she went inside to wait for her friend.

“I saw everyone arrive,” she said. “They all took their bags and left. And she was not there. I stayed at the airport and talked to all the agents. One finally told me she was not on the plane. I freaked out.”

Jaime called Stefaniak’s family, then the U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica.

Another friend emailed the owner of the Airbnb.

“He asked a guard at the property and the guard said he saw her leaving in an Uber at 5:10 a.m.,” Jaime said. “We checked her email and she did not take an Uber at 5:10 a.m. Then they changed the story that it was a taxi at 5:30 a.m.”

In her final text message to family, Stefaniak said it was raining, the power had gone out and the place seemed “pretty sketchy.”

That same night, she was Facetiming with a friend in New York when the call dropped about 9 p.m.

“He tried to Facetime her twice and he couldn’t get through,” Jaime said. “He thought the phone died or the reception was bad. Before the call dropped she said to him, ‘I’m thirsty. I’m going to ask the guard to buy me some water.’”

If they use unreliable immigrant workers to be security guards in CR, does that mean the residents have decent better paying jobs?

as you can see from the article I just posted he was from Nicaragua.
and has only been in Costa Rica since June

anyway, Yes much safer in the US, but like ANYWHERE , including the US, it all depends on where, what area you are in.
you can step out of your home and get shot nowadays , walk done the street and get robbed ,
murdered or whatever for just looking at a person wrong.
but just like in these type of areas, you can avoid them too.

you said something about a Cruise, I love them. But now you hear stories about them too.
This is life, like Jay said, you can't live in a Bubble.

The key to these places is to stay in groups or at least stay around others. Don't put yourself in a position where something can happen.
unfortunately it looks like this girls Sister in-law put her in this position.

and I will say not all people from Costa rica are out to get you

some residents have no jobs
and a lot of immigrant workers in CR. But I believe in most cases, they know someone there , so they can get jobs

in the case I'm guessing at this point it was of a sexual assault that she probably rebuffed

I couldn't imagine doing Airbnb in the San Jose area, maybe at the beach to rent a house. It is better to spend the money on a decent hotel and have 24 hour staff and surveillance.

Crime has certainly risen rapidly since I arrived in 1999, but for the most part it is kept in certain areas, and you just avoid those areas.
