Florida Marlins to win world series

What does everyone think at odds of about 25 to 1? Their pitching should be as strong or stronger this year, with the addition (at some point) of a healthy AJ Burnett, and, let's face it...it's their pitching that got them the title last year. With another year under his belt, Dontrelle should be better, and, Beckett looks like he's stepped his game up to the elite level of other young studs like Prior. Remember that only a couple of years ago, Beckett was considered the best pitching prospect to come down the line in a long, long time.

They added Mondessi for some pinch hitting, right handed pop, and, they replaced Urbina with Benitez. They haven't replaced Pudge, which will be a big loss, but, I see alot of value with this team at 25 to 1 odds. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I don't see the Marlins making the playoffs this year. The Phillies look tough in the East. Burrell will be a force this year. Added Wagner in the pen. Phillies have a better lineup and almost equal pitching. The wild card will likely be the Astros or Cubs.

I beg to differ on the fact that the Phillies have equal starting pitching. Equal to the Marlins? The Marlins are younger, and have much higher upside in the starting rotation, as evidenced by what they did last year to the Cubs, Giants and Yankees. I will give you the lineup part, but, not the pitching. And, Benitez can hold down the fort as well or better than Urbina did.

A lot depends on how Burnett comes back. I think the loss of Pudge as defensive force and game manager will hurt them more than his offense. They will still be solid and play around .500 ball and with a few breaks could get the wild card again. Personally, I don't see it happening, but would be ecstatic to see 'em repeat.

Hats off to Every Gambler's Dream for his well chosen words about the Yankees. It's going to be a long season for the Yankee haters when they win 110 games.

As for the Marlins I agree that they are worth a shot at 25-1 or more, especially if they can get 200+ innings from Burnett. But that's a big if. They do have a better starting rotation than the Phillies, who seem to be the pre-season flavor of the month in the National League. Not a big Bowa fan and he will figure out some way to screw things up.

Take a look at Beckett's second half numbers and his post season numbers (specifically in the series) and you will see that this guy has a chance to win the Cy Young this year. When I talk about his numbers, I'm talking about the numbers beneath the numbers, like batting average against, strikeouts per nine, strikeout to walk ratio.

He might be the best pitcher in baseball this year, and, with an ace like that, along with the likes of an improving Dontrelle, and a most underrate fifth starter (probably the best fifth starter in the game) in Pavano, and with the return (even if only at 80%) of Burnett, this team has a chance to be as good, or better, than last year. They may or may not have the magic, and the fate that they had last year, but, they have a chance, on paper, to be better.

We shall see.

Again, does anyone know a place where I can get them at better than 30 to 1?

FLA at 45 is worth a shot for sure and 25-1 isn't bad either. Great starting pitching with expanded play-offs is more important than ever.
I never usually take odds this low, but I think Red Sox at 5-1(Oly) is excellent opp. Over-reaction to A-Rod acquisition. Even if Bosox only get in with wild-card, they still have better starting pitching than Yanks and have a fighting chance in short series against them if they meet.
