Is Delgado going to stand for "God Bless America" down there. He's a damn idiot and will not help that team in the big picture!

i think he's an ass too. but, he hit 32 hrs and had 99 rbis last year and he missed 6 weeks with an injury.

this team is solid. lots of young players, decent pitching staff (even with the loss of pavano).

it certainly isn't a lock but, at 18:1, i'll take a chance

I called in and they let me have a higher max bet at bet365 at 22-1 odds last night, but they dropped the odds right after that. Also hit Olympic up at 6-1 odds for the NL East. No qualms about locking money up on a futures bet with those values.

Hey Blue,

Didn't you cash a 9-to-1 or something on the Rays not to finish in the AL East gutter last season? I like your purchase on the Marlins. Wonder how long it will take Pinnacle to post bb futures.

I hooked up 50-1 odds on the World Series on the Marlins.....personally I prefer that then the NL title wager. Almost got in at 66-1 at sportingbet right after the Delgado signing, but they didn't let the bet go through and took the odds off the board. They have it at 40-1 now.

do u guys even know anything about Carlos or are you judging him based solely on his strong opinions against the invasion of Iraq...?? although personally I was in favor of the invasion, Carlos and about 5 other billion people on the planet were against it, and he felt so strongly against it he wanted to make a statement about it, he has the freedom to do that but said now that he's made his feelings known he won't be doing it this season... He is a great pickup for the Marlins, a power hitter from the left side of the plate who consistently hits 30-40 Homeruns and over 100 RBI's each season??? Umm yah, he'll fit in well...Also a player who is very well liked by the fans, his teammates and the media because of his humble and laid back style. He is the complete opposite personality of idiots like Randy Moss and Terrell Owens, but maybe u think those guys are heros or something, so in that case Delgado would be an ass...He is gonna fit in real well with Pierre, Castillo, Lowell, Cabrera and Lo Duca,,that is one potent offence and I really like the future bet on them.

actually, it was 15:1 on the d-rays. pinny's lines should be up soon...maybe after the superbowl.

i'd rather have 18-1 on the nl than 40-1 on the series. gotta figure the yanks or the sox are coming from the al...then you are looking at having to lay -400 or -300 on them to hedge the marlins bet.

Blue,

There is no way the Yanks or Sox will be even -300 in the WS, let alone -400. I don't think there has ever been a WS line that high, at least not in the last 25 years. Even the Yanks in 1998 with 121 wins going into the Series only were about -220 over the Padres and that was drawing action on the Padres. The Oakland A's were low 200's in the late 80s when they went 1-2 in their trips to the Series, if I remember right the series they got swept by Cincy they were -240. Just not going to happen.

I don't know if you know anything about Delgado, but he isnt who you say he is, and I think Florida overpaid for him. His left handed power will not translate to big numbers at ProPlayer's DeathValley right field dimensions, but never the less, he will be an OK cog in the Fish's offensive wheel, and I also agree that Florida has a shot at a deep postseason. But he isn't the "God" you're portraying him as, quit being such a myopic canuck, go concentrate on your CFL Lions...

bubba, its a long off-season for BC Lion fans after losing the Grey Cup to those damn Toronto Argos. It's fun to watch and I've got a buddy that plays O-line on the Lions so free tickets never hurt, but I definitely prefer NFL man,, love makin the drive down to Seattle to watch games at Qwest field. As far as Delgado, well, I'm a Jays fan and followed him since his rookie game. I think after watching him for about 10 years and numerous games I can give an opinion that he is a good guy and class act. It pisses me off when I see guys coming on here calling him an a$$hole when they probably know nothing about him except he didn't stand for God Bless America because of his opinions against war. Although sad to see him leave the Jays, no way we could afford him at that price and I definitely think he is overpaid at 13 mill a year as well...I'm not calling him the saviour of the Marlins by any means, but he'll fit in real well on that Marlins ballclub with the table setters and power hitters already in place. If he gets his usual 100+ RBI's and 30 homers or so I'm sure they'll be quite happy with it..

Seems as though most of you jumped in and took a future bet immediately *AFTER* the value dropped out of it.

Would have been much wiser to have taken it earlier when it was down to 3-4 teams in the bidding for Delgado.

As it stands, you took a bet that after the Delgado signing (and especially hearing Sportscenter say that Florida could very well win the NL East now), everyone and their dog jumped on and killed all of the value in it.

Value on bets like that are only found when you can hitup the odds before the bookies account for whatever news hits (in this case, Delgado signing with the Marlins)... and in this day and age, you are very unlikely to get the jump on a line regarding news like this.

wouldn't the bet without delgado. saying it would have been wiser to wait to see if the marlins got him before betting on them is like saying it would have been wiser to wait and see if george bush carried ohio before betting on him to win the election.

plus, how much did the odds change after delgado signed? i don't know for sure but i don't think it was very much. they are still a "long shot".

i just checked...i made the play on 1/26 (after the delgado signing) and got 18:1 at bet365. it is now 12:1 at bet365 and 9.5:1 at olympic. not sure when they changed but, it was at least a couple days after the delgado signing.

Think you misread this thread chief. We put in out bets prior to the odds being changed due to Delgado.

Futures to me just never seem like a good proposition.

1) Your capital is tied up and you can't use that money to invest in other positive opportunities.
2) Their never seems to be great value. If you bet all teams at one sportsbook at on time I know the value would be beyond horrendous.
