If florida can pull this one out they got a real legit shot at winning it all.

anyone know the line? figure around LSU -4 or 5. if its a night game thats not good for florida but USC did a pretty good job of bottling up this year's heisman winner in the 1st half and florida's D is a big step up.

thoughts?...cant wait for this game

Gotta figure UF stacks the box in an attempt to stop Fournette. Then let their CBs' lock up one on one with the LSU WRs. Gonna make QB Harris beat them with his arm and maybe his legs, because their will be big plays available if he can escape the pocket and make things happen with his legs. Has the makings of a classic LSU/UF game.

UF isn't going to win that game.

Pete, I agree. The O is too mediocre. If LSU can get to 17-24 points, UF is done....and I think LSU will easily do that (17+).

I don't think UF has the defense to match up with LSU's rushing offense. That great defensive backfield better get ready for some really hard pounding when Fournette gets to the second level. Is Hardgraves a hitter?

Heargraves is a 200 lbs corner. UFs safeties are all 210+. Maye is practically a LB. The biggest concern is LB depth. I'm not saying they'll stop that great RB, but UF has probably the best D in the SEC. So I think they'll have some success. It will be a battle and he'll have to earn most of his yards.

Why do you consider them the best defense in the SEC? Where are the numbers to support that claim?

Good question. I think if you are a UF backer, you are looking at how UF's pass defense has been significantly better than LSU's pass defense against stronger SEC opponents...

LSU:

MSU (#28 rated passing offense nationally - all games)
Auburn (#113 rated passing offense nationally - all games)
South Carolina (#108 rated passing offense nationally - all games)

combined stats vs. these three teams (all stats factoring sacks as passing yards):
58.3% completion
5.7 yards per attempt
9.8 yards per attempt
195 yards per game
5 TD
2 Int
9 sacks, 58 yards (3 sacks per game)

UF:

Ole Miss (#11 rated passing offense nationally - all games)
Kentucky (#64 rated passing offense nationally - all games)
Tennessee (#81 rated passing offense nationally - all games)
Missouri (#93 rated passing offense nationally - all games)

combined stats vs. these four teams (all stats factoring sacks as passing yards):
50.1% completion
5.6 yards per attempt
10.9 yards per attempt
170 yards per game
2 TD
5 Int
16 sacks, 138 yards (4 sacks per game)

While UF currently ranks as #47 nationally, you can throw that out the door with the suspension coming into play (if Harris comes in and passes for 200+ that would probably surprise a few folks...whether he could or not is irrelevant since they didn't earn #47 with him as the primary QB).

On the flip side, however, LSU represents the worst passing offense that UF has seen so far (technically ranked #122 nationally) - which of course is a little deceptive since they haven't had to rely on their passing game. But the point being, if UF can make LSU one dimensional, then it all boils down to trenches, tackling, and turnovers. UF can't win with the kind of tackling they had against UT.

If you are an LSU backer, you're pointing to the fact that UF has not been very good against the one rushing team with a pulse they faced (#21 Tennessee averaged 5.75 yards per carry - sacks removed) and LSU will be, by far, the best rushing offense that UF has faced this year. LSU fans have to be licking their chops at the missed tackles by UF in that game, but whether or not that was just a bad game for UF or the result of facing a better rushing team remains to be seen.

-etc

QB for Fla is out. Line will be around 9 or so. Line is off the board at the moment.

Who's better? They have a stout DL, led by All-SEC DE/DT John Bullard, DE Alex McCallister (leading rush end, sack leader), All-SEC MLB Antonio Morrison, 1st Team All-American Vernon Hargreaves....and the best secondary in the country. Who's better?

Hargreaves after Fournette trucked him last year. Hargreaves is a cover corner, he doesn't want to meet Fournette on the second level.

When Jalen Mills returns to line up, the LSU secondary is The Best in the country. He's probably gonna be healthy this weekend.

This will be proven out as the schedule unfolds.

LSU front 7 is thin. But we have enough on D to keep Bama and Florida to 17 or less.

And that'll take care of both those opponents.

Those are all opinions. I know the media considers the UF defense a great one, but where are the numbers to support that? I haven't seen UF stop a power rushing game yet, and now they get to attempt it on the road....in Baton Rouge....at night.
