My son goes to FAU...He is a Freshman.
His roommate is a walk on for the team. And his roommates brother is a Defensive Lineman for the team.
They have a very, very experienced team and this is their conditional year in Div. 1.
Schnellenberger is the coach and has done a phenemonal job so far. Taking the program to Div. 1 in 4 years.
They do match up decently against Hawaii and believe it or not will score some points next week against them.
Looking forward to some info from my son on their (teams) expectations and how "overwhelmed" if they are traveling 5000 miles for their 1st game.
It seems like a short price and a Hawaii selection at first look, but willing to see what comes.
I will let you know if I hear anything.
FAU is so well coached they may just keep this game close enough to think they could win it, which I cannot see happening.
More to come.......Good Luck

Anyone know why this game is off the board everywhere? More importantly, anything wrong with Fla Atlantic? I know everything there is to know about Hawaii for this game. It ain't pretty.

The Owls have puny offensive and defensive lines size-wise, and no depth. Warriors' big island brutes will squash 'em. Don't buy into Schnellenberger, or he'd still be with a bigtime program.

..Not sure why this game is off board. Anybody know ?

I'm from Florida, go to FAU and there could be a surprise cover from the Owls. Last year, FAU went to the IAA semi-finals in only its third year as a program, with the majority of that team being juniors. They welcome back four year starting QB, Jared Allen, a big boy from Oklahoma, both RB, both TE, most of the O line and somewhere like 8 starters on defense, including the entire secondary. Papers down here say that the secondary should put up a decent challenge for Chang. Defensively, they predominately set up in 3-4, which they started using late last season during their playoff run, when they started losing players to injury. That should be some kind of an indication at the ability of this unit, to change scheme mid way through the season and still get to the semi's. Most everyone knows that Florida breeds some of the finest football talents in the nation, especially South Florida. Schnellberger proved that at Miami, and is now doing the same at FAU. The weather in Hawaii shouldn't be a problem, however, the trip and time change could. I hope I could offer some help.

Guys, guys, SHHHHHHHHHH

I am from Hawaii and I can tell you Fla Atl is a live dog in this game. Hawaii's D is an absolute mess. Now lets be quiet about this and can somebody please tell me if there is an injury on the Fla Atl side keeping this game off the board?

I know there are some injuries and a running back controversy. One of the other reasons FAU returns to a 3-4 this season is because the starting DE Johnnie Sloan is questionable with a sprained ankle and the other DE Ramon Rickards will miss the game due to disciplinary action. Rickards started last year but decided to leave the team during camp only to return a few days later. Schnellberger was quoted in saying that Rickards would be dropped to no. 3 or 4 this season.

Regarding the RBs there are three players in contention. Doug Parker (SR), Anthony Jackson (SR), and Daveon Barron (JR) who started last season. Parker is the school all time leading rusher but missed last season with an injury. NOTE: two years ago FAU had one of the worst ground games in IAA, and this year in preseason, there have been occassions where the RBs have had double digit carries and nothing to show for, running single digit yardage.

mgspooky---I just started going again this semester, after taking some time off. The best thing about Boca Raton is the female action. Beautiful women everywhere. Your son should have a blast since he's a Freshman. I'm getting a little too old for these beauties, but that's not stopping me.
When you get a chance, ask your son if he knows what's up with the running game and the D-line. Thanks

I'm sorry. I wrote that Parker was out last season. That's wrong. Jackson injured his knee in 2002 and was out for the season (the same season the were at the bottom of the league in rushing.)

Interesting---heavy attrition for both Defenses. Just hope and pray someone somewhere hangs a total on this game. You could see triple digits.

Where can you get 20? I would bet my left nut on Fla Atl at that number.

The number that I keep seeing is Hawaii 18, which surprises me. I read somewhere here on the rx that Hawaii was suppose to be a five td favorite.

But I agree with peter, this could be a high scoring game.

I would take Hawaii -30, or more. Hawaii has the best home advantage in NCAA. It is hard enough for any team to travel half way across the world to play a game. 6 hour loss plus no experience in division one. You guys have to be kidding, majority of good D 1 teams would have problems with Hawaii at home. Granted Hawaii's defense isn't that good, but they shouldn't have problems with Flor Atl. Chang will destroy this team's defense. Hawaii will consistantly score around 35 - 40 pts a game this year, in this game they will score 50 or more. Mark my words, Flor Atl doesn't have a chance in hell, this will be a blow out! Hawaii -20 or whatever, and a very high scoring game. Just my opinion. GL!

I am glad your opinion represents the majority of those that do not follow the Hawaii team "up close and personal." I am assuming your image of Tim Chang is the one the UH media and ESPN have been creating--the soon to be record breaker and Heisman trophy darkhorse--not the interception prone poor decision maker I have seen in person every home game. I am glad to read your post because that means the number could be heading higher--so I will wait a while before risking my testicles on Fla Atl.

Thought you all might be interested in some stat comparisons:

FAU (2003 stats)
Offense:
Rush--126.9 yards/game
Pass--243.6 yards/game
PF--28.4 points/game

Defense:
Rush--144.9 yards allowed/game
Pass--224.7 yards all/game
PA--21.9 points/game

Hawaii (2003 stats)
Offense:
Rush--103.7 yards/game
Pass--384.4 yards/game
PF--34.7 points/game

Defense:
Rush--158.4 yards allowed/game
Pass--239.4 yards all/game
PA--30.5

And I just want to compare the QBs statistically.

Jared Allen: 6-3 215 lb SR. 218/346 on passing attempts (63%), 24/9 TD to INT ration, 3003 yards passing in season for 214.5/game.

Timmy Chang: 6-2 194 lb SR. 353/601 (58%), 29/20 TD to INT, 4199 yards for 323 yards per game.

I'm not a capper so I'm not making a pick. I just want to provide some info about FAU to those who might be interested in knowing about them. If I were to give my opinion, there should be a lot of points on the scoreboard.

Got these numbers from the school websites.

Good luck

Go back and check FA's last 3 years on schedule. I can't find even a halfway decent qb they have played. Chang should kill them.
