I was wondering if anyone had some strategies.
This is my first year in this thing.
It is basically a 5 team parlay each week.
I can use college or NFL, and use our local newspapers wednesdays lines.
(picks are due on wednesday for that weekends games)
I think our number of people is 35 and we each put in 500.
If I can get 5 picks right I win 600 ish.
If someone else wins also, we split.
If nobody wins, it carries over. (2 years ago it got up to like 4k)
Whoever has the best w/l record at the end of the year (top 3) gets a lil coin also.

I was wondering if I should stick to strictly big conference, inter-conference, or small conference.
only games with huge spreads, or small,
follow certain handicappers,
and or hedge if I get the first 4 right.

I kinda know what I'm doing, but would feel better if someone could steer me into a system, or better direction than I feel like I'm currently heading.:think2:

College is easier early in the year...stay away from marquee games and NFL DD dogs are solid.

You're probably right about college being easier to handicap due to less parody, but some of colleges lines are astronomical.

as far as hedging, if I have 4 wins on sat, and one nfl game on sun still pending, should I throw a couple hundy down on the opposite side.

My 500 is just a one time payment, ideally I need only win one week out of the year without splitting w/ someone else to make money.

Some college lines are huge, but there are also a lot of huge blowouts in college ball. The best thing about college football is the amount of games. NFL only has 16 games (?) a week for the oddsmakers to key on, college has 40+.

You can always find a few bad lines, especially early on.

Thanks, i've already got a couple of those down, was thinking seattle at home instead of N.O. against a really bad St Louis team.

Also was leaning towards :

stanford
Nc st
uab
and although I hate vandals, gotta go with idaho... new mexst is awful

After you enter your pix and then do a parlay on the side this has worked for me in the past..........

If you are 4-0 going to mon nite i always play the ml fav say sd-450 then when you go to hedge you can ge oak+9 and pos when both bets..........

I have a partner and he kills the nfl but i like cfb so we share alot of insights...........

Sure sounds like a fun contest..........glty

Here in vegas they have a free contest that pays the winner $30,000 per week and you get 3 entries..........no pts. In this one so i always play the fav on mon and hegde the dog if i'm alive on mon..... Been here 6 yrs now and haven't even come cause there are so many entries.....i wrote tickets at a book for a yr and half and absolutely loved it and any time somebody would have 1 loss in the contest i told them they were a loser cause someone always gets every game right and mostly women.....go figure

:smoker2:I'm still wavering every 5 minutes.
Before the line came out, I was thinking BSU would be getting 3 points, last year we got 10 in Autzen.
Then saw oregon line get up to 6 @ some shops, it's falling now down to 4.5 mostly.
I understand that vegas wants to split the action to collect the juice so the line movement makes sense cuz 70% or so look to be on the ducks.
line may get down to 2.5 to entice this. Who knows?

thinking it is gonna be high scoring, maybe come down to last possesion, and or take turns scoring in the "free football time" at the end of regulation.

All that being said, Oregon with points will most likely be the play.

BTW just got done talking to 2 of the coaches from BSU and they were talking about the RB from oregon like he might be the 2nd coming of christ!!!

scares me a lil bit, but on the other hand, my boss got to go to a closed practice, and he says BSU by a lot!!!

I am still way wavering, but on a side note, both coaches who shall remain nameless say that nevada is legit... look out notre dame lovers!!!

I finally got all the official rules. WOO HOO!!!

Here it is. The email that you have all been waiting for....

From JOHN DOE:

Welcome alumni and new comers to Season V of the Boise Bush League Pick 5.

The rules are as follows:

1.) Picks must be received by 5 PM MST on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays for early games. All other picks must be received by 12 PM, Noon, on Friday. If you know your picks sooner please provide them asap.

2.) Master sheets will be sent to everyone via email by 5 PM MST on Friday or earlier if everyone is prompt.

3.) Tie on a spread is a loss.

4.) If one or more teams win, the pot will be split equally between the teams that won.

5.) If there is not a winner for the week the pot will carry over to the next week.

6.) Our league is 16 weeks long, after the 16th week, the top seven overall teams will receive a year end prize.

7.) If there is a carryover at the end of the season it will be added to prize money for the end of season winners and additional spots will be added accordingly.

8.) All spreads are out of the Idaho Statesman. If no line is given on a game due to an injury that game is eliminated from picking. If there is no line in the Idaho Statesman due to other reasons JOHN DOE will make the call if the game is allowed and will provide the spread.

Our League Secretary is JOHN DOES SECRETARY. Everyone was great last year with getting picks in on time. We've added 6 new teams this year, for a total of 36 teams. So please continue to provide your picks in a timely manner to assist her again this year.

Good Luck to All!!!

Thanks
JOHN DOE

From JOHN DOES SECRETARY:

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL????

It is FINALLY that time again - the season begins this week. I want to begin by saying welcome to each and everyone of you - we are going to have a great year.

Now the important stuff - as JOHN DOE included in his note we have added 6 new teams this year giving us a total of 36 teams. In doing this - the weekly payout has increased... YIPPEE ---- Each week, up for grabs is a minimum of $625 and even more if we have a carryover.

We have also been able to add three spots to the year end top overall payout schedule. It is now as follows:

1st place - $2700
2nd place - $1500
3rd place - $1000
4th place - $750
5th place - $600
6th place - $500
7th place - $500

I would like to ask everyone if you would please include your team name on your picks when you send them in? This will help me as some teams have changed names, some have changed partners or gone solo, and we have added a few. You can help me save some time just by listing your team name with your picks.

I prefer to receive your picks by email however text messages work also. In the event where you are unable to send these in you can call either JOHN DOE or myself to turn in your picks. I do like to receive your picks electronically so that if I make an error it is easily traced and fixed. Please check your picks, weekly and season overalls once you have received the master sheet to ensure that I have made no errors and let me know as soon as possible so that I can get it taken care of.

Now my final request is HAVE FUN and Good Luck to you all...

Thanks
JOHN DOES SECRETARY

A lot of people here are on Notre Dame. I would either take the Irish or avoid that game.
