so I'm heading out for my 2-day introduction to las vegas tomorrow afternoon. Should get into LV around 8pm and will be staying downtown until Wednesday evening when I fly back.

I've found a few places to shoot craps /w good odds. Figure I'll get my poker fix at either the Nugget or Binion's. My only real question is what's a good spot to drink & watch sports?

If there's anything specific I should check out while staying downtown let me know.

777 restraurant/microbrew at Main Street. Great burgers and beer. They have this one brew that tastes sweet but kicks you in the ass. I don't know what the alcohol content is but it's got to be double digits. It was named for one of the waitress' there but the name escapes me at the moment.

They actually have part of the Berlin wall in the men's room. For those that like some culture while being in a drunken stupor.

Need more auditorium style books that can seat 100+ any given day.

I get the whole "no one watches baseball" but for the popular events and on weekends there's never enough seating.

Place your bets at the Plaza (-105) and watch where ever you prefer. The bad thing is the book doesn't open until 9 or 10.
El Cortez is great for the bargain hunters.

caesars was really nice, imperial palace isnt bad bc the drinks r free, u kinda get what u expect out of the sportsbook depending on what kind of casino u r in, the nicer casinos have great sportsbooks, the cheap ones make up for it with cheap/free drinks

again, thanks all for the ideas.

i'm going to try and stay off the strip, just 'cause my time is so limited. I don't need fancy stuff, plush chairs & all that... just need enough TV's and some locals to shoot the shit with. free drinks are a good thing, but i'd also be happy to place my bets and then sit down at a bar and watch the games if it's a better atmosphere.

I enjoyed the Nugget. I hope somehow someway I get to the bash again.

The food from the place right next to the sportsbook was pretty cool.

Poker scene was weak downtown. Never seemed to be many tables running downtown. LOL I was at a small downtown poker room was trying to wait for a game to fill and anded up playing this ild man headsup for about an hour LOL. I told him he needed to buy in for atleast 200 for me to agree to play him. I had a good run and he called me alot never thinking I could have it again. Took 2 buy ins from him. Gave it back at the sportsbook. When will I learn I suck at sports betting.

Thanks man - yea, always lived back East and honestly I was never one for flying, so it just never happened. Feels easier now that i'm closer. I'm sure I'll love it, given that foxwoods has been my only casino experience thus far in life.

I'd say hookup but your eyes will be too wide.

My gal of 10yrs had never been .....after 3 weeks of dating when I found that out I said "If it''s not too early.....ya wanna go to Vegas?"
We had a hoot....I dragged everywhere!
She will be with me this week!

Enjoy

Another good place to eat at Main Street Station is the seafood buffet. I'm not sure they have it during the week. It may only be on Friday and Saturday nights. If you go, make sure you go early as there are a lot of Asians in Vegas and they love their seafood buffets.

Another great place to eat on Main Street is at Tinoco's Kitchen which is on the Main Street side of the Las Vegas Club which faces Fremont Street. Entrees will run you between $15-$20 but it's well worth it.

If you want cheap then try the shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate casino. You can get one for $2.99, or else you can get a player's card and get one for $1.99.

If you have a group of people you can try Firefly in the Plaza Hotel. Many different tapas to sample:

Or, if you want simple but good try Krispy Kreme donuts in Fitzgerald's Casino just down the street from the Nugget on Fremont Street.

All by myself on this trip, so I'll probably only be eating at spots /w bars (hate sitting at a table by myself). Excited though - will post some kinda cliff's notes of how it goes when I return home.

thanks again for all the ideas
