Hoo boy. The Cleveland Indians baseball organization is getting sued over its mascot.

According to multiple news sources this afternoon, a group called People Not Mascots is preparing to file a Federal lawsuit against the team’s ownership in response to the team’s longstanding association with its logo and mascot, Chief Wahoo.
The team has been fronted by an Indian-themed mascot of some kind or other since 1928, and has been dealing with sanctimonious protests of its alleged racist connotations for more than half that time. In 1972, the Cleveland American Indian Center sued the team for $9 million over the use of Chief Wahoo, a case that was settled (with no mascot change) in 1983. Intermittent objections have regularly cropped up ever since.
“It’s been offensive since day one,” Robert Roche, a Chiricahua Apache Indian and member of People Not Mascots, told NBC News. “We are not mascots. My children are not mascots. We are people.”
The plaintiffs have indicated they will file the suit in July.
Indians fan site Roll Tribe Nation braced itself for an unfolding political correctness storm today, pledging to acknowledge all points of view as Cleveland becomes the focus of the Nation’s next big celebration of self-righteousness. “While Roll Tribe Nation has not taken a stance on Chief Wahoo, we will be running articles on the issue, representing multiple viewpoints,” the site promised.

I'm tired of the media. I wish some real disaster would happen so all these non-news stories would disappear.

Kind of a bs lawsuit. Didn't Cleveland quit using the Chief Wahoo logo a year or two ago?

Oddly enough, when Washington changed their name to the Redskins, a Native American coach on the team was involved in the naming process. I think this whole thing begs the question of whether this is a social issue or a political issue? If they were named the Washington Redskinned Tomahawk Wielding Psychopaths then yeah, I would consider it offensive. But why are they all of a sudden concerned about all of this now, after all of these years?

lawyers, lil frakn bitch ass lawyers

Amen Sir!

Might as well get ready! All rivers, streams, mountains, and what have you, with Native American names need to changed immediately. Makes people's asses itch! Good an excuse as any.

The Cuyahoga River through Cleveland is famous for being "the river that caught fire". This helped to spur the environmental movement in the late 1960s. Native Americans called this "winding water", which means "crooked river" in the language of the Iroquoian tribe.

I am afraid the "catching fire" part may have been part of what started the nickname "Armpit of American" for Cleveland. Johnny Manziel will probably be doing all he can to further that nickname in the near future.

Maybe if they were the Cleveland Drunken Indians, and their mascot was some fat Indian drinking wine from a bag next to a dumpster it would be racist

They should change their mascot to the Casinos and the mascot will be an Indian dressed in a suit and tie.

Unreal. I mean maybe you can change the logo or something but the names are awesome and historic. I really hope Snyder doesn't buckle no matter how much heat he gets from these crazies with nothing better to do.

Too bad it is Snyder being attacked. I have always liked the logo and name Redskins. Of course, in my 60+ years, nobody was complaining.

Snyder is a known moron.... so not as much credibility to keep up the fight.

The Irish do not have a problem with the Celtics. It seems that some people are just dying to get on the cross.

What about the Nebraska Cornhuskers... How that's not a racist logo is beyond me. Big, dumb inbred white guy....

Reminds me of that guy who played the slow assistant coach for the old football show "Coach"

This country should be more cognissant of ageism which is allowed and alot more prevalent in the work force than the made up truth of racism. My God, you actually have to hire some no matter what.
