Almost all of our dog play lines come from Bodog. Olympic and Pinnacle have it at +14½ and buying ½ pt is a smart move.

Good luck my friend,

Your first 10 unit game in some time, but "buying the half point is a smart move" ?

If this game is that strong, is there really that much difference between 14.5 and 15? And if there IS, is there really that much difference between 1 unit and 10 units?

I'm confused.

If you knew how the linemakers came up with this spread, you would have the answer to your question.

The other day, someone asked me why taking a team A on the moneyline when that team was favored by "only" 2-2½ pts on the pointspread.

Guess what, my team won by 1, I won my wager, and the other guy lost.

Buying points can be a smart thing to do, but you have to know when to buy them.

Have a nice day.

Buying points is sure fire way to the poorhouse.
You can never recover the extra juice you pay for buy points....
And buying a HALF-POINT when the line is already 14 1/2????????? Make ABSOLUTELY no sense at all and violates every rule of SMART money management that I know of.

I know SC is hosting the tournament but 3 games in 3 days for SC is asking a bit much. Have you taken this into consideration ?

Musky, we definately hear what your saying. I have also had several people state the same thing to me to. But heres what they fail to mention, and that is What if the game wins, then what. Or how about when the extra half pt saves you from a loss giving you a push or even a win , instead of a loss, which would of happened hadnt you not bought the pts. There is always two sides to a story, and nothing is so definate. But what we need to do is take it from both sides and explain how we both can benefit from playing both sides. JMO , Aloha CC.

I also think it strange that on a top play for you that you bought the hook but to each his own I guess. By the way the Zags will have a boatload of fans their tonite for sure and I anticipate them coming out guns blazin'. GLTU anyway as I have this as a halftime play only game.

I guess I just don't see the rationale to buying a half-point..............on a spread of 14.............on a 10 unit play.

I don't know how he rates his plays but it sounds like a 10 unit play is a BIG play....

If it is such a good play...........why buy points? For "insurance"???.........
"just in case"??? If that is why you are doing it then why buy only 1 1/2 point? why not 1..........or 2.......or???????
It just makes no sense....not to me anyway...
But hey.......who am I????

Somewhere on my site,I have a very nice write-up showing why buying-points is a recipe for disaster....I will look for it and post it here when I find it.

Musky & Co.,

"It just makes no sense....not to me anyway...But hey.......who am I????"

Exactly. Who are you ? You have 9 posts, 2 of those 9 posts right here in my thread. Secret agenda ?

Anyways. My play is Santa Clara +15 from Bodog.

People who like this play but can't get more than 14½ can buy ½ if they want.

People who don't like this play, or who don't like me, can simply fade it.

It's up to you. I don't care.

From now on I will simply post my Bonus Plays.

Do what you want with them.

I didn't mean to stir things up at all.

I just figured that if it's a big game for you, a half point shouldn't matter. I'm not debating the merits of buying points, only saying that if it is such a good bet (to rate it 10 units), it should never be close to that line. If it could be close enough that buying a half point matters, it has no business being a 10 unit play.

Is the number of posts a pre-requisite to authenticattion?

I am simply responding to a post that YOU made......I assume you posted so that others would read it. I am sorry if what I have said made you feel uncomfortable about your position. I am sure you will find that a majority of serious cappers, share my beliefs on buying poimts.

paying 10 cents for the 1/2 point in a spread off of 15 is stupid,

In fact I think it is stupid in all cases except for the 6.5 o 7 point spread in football
