On your Firefox main toolbar

OPTIONS>PRIVACY>Private Data

There is a box that reads - Always Clear My Private Data When Closing Firefox

That box should be UNchecked if you wish to avoid relogging into various websites that store your login data via the use of Cookies.

Additionally...just above that there is a Cookies section

Accept Cookies from sites - Check
Accept 3rd Party Cookies - Check

The drop down - Keep Until - should be Until They Expire

====
Regarding all of the above, I personally do NOT keep cookies...I accept them, but then Keep Until - I Close Firefox

And I also Clear My Private Data when Closing Firefox

This helps to reduce spam email that comes from Cookies kicking back data to the site(s) and from which they identify your primary email program and email address, to which they then share with advertisers who send Spam.

In my case, I use Eudora and my mapinc email address and that's unfortunately where I receive what spam I do. For many web users, it's their Outlook email address.

Such cookies-based spyware does not have any way to detect your Yahoo/Hotmail/gmail style email addys.

In short, saving Cookies adds convenience to your web surfing, but also assures an increase in spam-related mail to any email address affiliated with your Default Mail program.

If you don't use a default mail program (and only use hotmail, yahoo etc) then there's not a lot of concern.

Bar You May Remember

I had a lot of Q's LY and you helped me w/a new HD TV. Well @ that time I finally gave in to my kids urging, also switched from the old WEBTV, and got a Dell using my new Samsung as a monitor, Works great, but what I just realized after reading this thread, I get NO MORE spam at all. Not sure of the reason, must have something to do w/protection that I get from IE or Windows? Not sure, but it's great.:think2:

Silver7, I recall you're making the jump into 21st century with that Dell.

What do use for for your email? A program on the Dell (outlook or another)? Or do you use an online email like Yahoo/Hotmail etc?

Quick tip while I'm on this topic

It's very very smart to create a distinct Yahoo or Hotmail email account solely for when you need an email address to register at an online site for any reason at all.

And then use a separate email for personal correspondence.

The first one is the one that will attract Spam (though most is nicely filtered into a Spam folder by Yahoo).

The second will very, very rarely get spam since no commercial outlet or website knows of its existence

Bar Thanks For ANY Help

you give. My ancient brain needs ALL the help it can get, making the transition to the cyber world! I get my email thru my ISP, Qwest, xxxxx@Q.com. Thought about setting one up w/yahoo etc. You must realize that I use my Dell far less than most. Mainly email, searches, sports forums & scores etc.! No games etc.! Probably could do more w/it, but the increased speed & the open access to phone calls while using it are big advantages compared to my old way! My sons-in law are all very astute, and I may use them to see if I want to extend my horizons. I read a lot and of course my naps take up much of my time now. AHH for my "salad days". BOL to you & the Mrs.

Okay...are you accessing the Qwest email by going to the Qwest website, or are you having it directed into your Outlook email program (comes standard with most new Windows systems)?

I'm guessing the former, which explains why you get so little spam. The QWest system can filter most unwanted items before they even reach you.
