Larry Kroon of the Wasilla Bible Church said Saturday, adding that investigators were considering arson and other possible causes.
A ladies' craft group was in the building when the fire broke out, but they got out safely, Kroon said.
"No one was hurt," he said.
Central Mat-Su Fire Department Chief James Steele said the department was "treating it as suspicious and as potential arson at this point" but did not elaborate, The Anchorage Daily News reported.
The newspaper said Palin released a statement after the fire in which she said she stopped by the church Saturday morning and offered an apology to the assistant pastor "if the incident is in any way connected to the undeserved negative attention the church has received since she became a vice presidential candidate."
Steele said that as many as 40 firefighters from his and neighboring departments fought the blaze, which started about 9:40 p.m. Friday (1:40 a.m. ET Saturday).
Firefighters were on the scene dealing with hot spots until about 5 a.m. Saturday, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
The metal church building, which normally accommodates Sunday congregations of up to 1,000 people, was heavily damaged by flames and smoke, Kroon said.
"The fire investigators and insurance people are there now. There's definitely a lot of damage. I've heard the figure of $1 million, but I don't know for sure," he said.
Kroon said he was not at the church when the fire broke out and would not discuss what any of the church members who were there had reported to him.
He would not specify how many people were in the building at the time of the blaze.
"They were all adults, and they all got out. We're trying not to talk about specifics while investigators are still working on finding out what happened."
Kroon said the nondenominational church, which he described as "just a local community church," is about 30 years old and the church building itself is about 2½ years old.
The pastor said church services would be held on schedule Sunday in a nearby school.

Stocks the hate you have still shows you to be an asshole. WTH is wrong with you. They don't kidnap people and drag them to church. Those people happen to believe in something that helps them get past the day. I see no problem with that. Its a free country and they can believe whatever they want. Thats what makes this the best country in the world.

That post just makes you an ignorant asshole. Look at the hate you have. I thought you libs were supposed to have tolerance. LOL yeah right only tolerant to the gays and the anti-american shitheads.

First I'm not a lib I just dont buy into the american conserative bullshit

Second I'm not a big fan of the gays either but religious people deciding they're rights is bullshit. Like you said its a free counrty

Thrid for the most part only americans think america is the best country in the world.

Fourth I'm not talking about the normal average religious people that like to go to chruch every sunday and believe in god and dont bother anyone else thats fine I'm happy for these people if thats what they're into.

We all know the hardcore religious assholes I'm takling about the people that try to spread they're religious views on everyone else, change policy to fit they're view of right and wrong and how to live your life. And other stuff like changing science books to creationism instead of eveolution thats zero percent science and 100% the religious bullshit that I'm talking about and I'm pretty sure Palin is all for pushing creationism and against the gays and whatever else they're into.

So just to recap normal average religious people ok hardcore religious assholes I dont like.

I'm sure Sarah and her crazy pastor friend will lead a witch hunt in Wasilia to find the perpetrator. When is Zit flying up to help out with this?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/wor...h-hunt-woman-believed-caused-car-crashes.html

Vice presidential pick Sarah Palin is known for her strident views on religion and the power of prayer.
But her credibility is once again being questioned after an African pastor she credits with helping her political career was revealed to have waged a witch-hunt against a woman who was said to cause car crashes with her "demonic spells."...

Yeah sure thats why we have to build a wall around our borders.

I don't see them making it a crime to be gay. So not sure what that means.

I agree with people trying to stuff it down my throat.

Stocks I am not that religous but I don't hate them for what they believe.

Do you mean the wall on your border to stop everybody because they all think America is the best country in the world. its there to keep out Mexicans who live in Mexico a border line 3rd world country I think they're just happey to get out of mexico. I'll go out on a limb and say if there was another 1st world country on mexicos border the Mexicans would be piling over there aswell.

And the gay thing I dont know if you agree but should'nt everyone have the right to do what everyone else is allowed to do. Who was against the gays getting married religious people and I dont think any group of people should be allowed to take away or vote on the rights of other poeple. If one group of people has the right to do something than everybody should have the right to do it I dont think thats unreasonable is it.

Anyway I dont hate anybody I just dont like the extreme religious poeple and its not really for what they believe in but like you said its more the trying to stuff it down other peoples throat.

I'm fully aware that my conservative and religious views are not
going to be very popular on a gambling site.

That being said, your putting a positive spin on the arson of a Christian
church is heinous, filthy and disgusting.

I am neither a racist nor a homophobe. Find one post out of my 4,000
that is racist. I'd say 40% of my closest friends are African
American, so nice try.

And, my considering homosexuality to be immoral is not homophobia
in the least. So, you sir are a liar - and I am reporting this post for
lying slander.
