As somebody who fades the public as a primary strategy, I'll offer the following advice:
1) Don't blindly follow pregame or any other "sentiment" site.
2) Fading only works when there is a very large sample size - ie. a big game
3) Works best on ML bets and not functional on totals
4) Pay attention to line moves to see where the sharp money is
5) Even if you play it perfectly, expect to be only marginally profitable (55% is great)
6) Expect your book to cut you off and/or largely limit your "non-public" action
