First, congrats to the Buckeyes...they certainly earned the title! Also "Tip of the Hat" to the Memphis Tigers
(#25) on a great season. The Tigers had gone 1-11, 2-10, 4-8 and 3-9 the past four years. Hell of a turn around.

AP Final Rankings

1. Ohio State (14-1)
2. Oregon (13-2)
3. TCU (12-1)
4. Alabama (12-2)
5. Florida St. (13-1)
6. Michigan St. (11-2)
7. Baylor (11-2)
8. Georgia Tech (11-3)
9. Georgia (10-3)
10. UCLA (10-3)

11. Miss State (10-3)
12. Arizona St. (10-3)
13. Wisconsin (11-3)
14. Missouri (11-3)
15. Clemson (10-3)
16. Boise St. (12-2)
17. Ole Miss (9-4)
18. Kansas St. (9-4)
19. Arizona (10-4)
20. Southern Cal (9-4)

21. Utah ((9-4)
22. Auburn (8-5)
23. Marshall (13-1)
24. Louisville (9-4)
25. Memphis (10-3)

*I differ with some rankings but as a whole pretty good final in my opinion. What do you think?

I don't understand how the four teams that made the playoff aren't ranked 1-4, other than that, looks decent.

Oregon should be #4.
OSU, Alabama, TCU, Oregon, FSU. Bama team was up 21-6 on OSU would have beaten the ducks. TCU would have beaten the ducks and maybe given bama a great fight.

T...many football folks believed TCU should have been in the final four to begin with.

Doesn't matter I guess...Frogs were left out and will probably be debated for years...especially in Ft. Worth.

Number 8 Georgia Tech certainly made a statement. Experts had Paul Johnson on the hot seat
before the season started. Also, I thought Mississippi State (11) was rated better than they should
have been and I felt Clemson was better than #15. Boise State just continues to amaze me. Year
after year they prove they are a solid football program.

Would loved to have seen a TCU/Ohio State final. TCU is pretty stout up front. As we saw against Ole Miss. It would have been an interesting game.

MadPicker...don't know what it is about Bama (other than we need a defensive backs coach) but they have laid an egg in the Sugar Bowl of late. Yes, I know who coaches Tide DBs.

MP, have you heard that LSU is trying to hire away our defensive coordinator? Miles has been in contact with Kirby Smart for its open defensive coordinator position. Guess they will offer him more than the $1.35 million he's now making. Would hate to lose Kirby unless he got a head coaching job. He's done a great job for Bama the past seven years.

Clover, Matt Millen just got done hammering Boise on CFB live, LOL. If Watson for Clemson hadn't gotten hurt, they would have ended up well above that 15 spot. A lot of it is perception, and even though Stoudt pulled off the bowl win, I still believe he was a ball and chain for that team. I hear ya on the Frogs, but which of the four would ya have replaced? Florida State? Hell, they were the defending champs, undefeated, so no way in hell ya leave them out. Bucky blows Wisky out of the building and ends up winning it all, they obviously were a good pick by the committee. You aren't leaving Bama out, so now you're down to the Ducks, who won the first game to get to the title match. As much as I like Gary Patterson, I thought the correct four were chosen. The pundits certainly agree, but you know what they say about opinions and assholes, LOL.

Got to agree with you RT about Auburn.

The offense might have been top 25 but that defense couldn't stop anybody.

The right four were chosen. But it goes to show you that we need at least a 6 team playoff to erase all doubt.

You said yourself that a 6 team playoff is probably the most feasible way to go. We could have used it this year. It doesn't have anything to do with who makes run. It's about having just 4 playoff slots for 5 power conferences.

GS, unusual to see a final top 25 list without Oklahoma in it. (Probably gotten Stoops attention)

Sooners have hired East Carolina's Lincoln Riley as its new offensive coordinator. He will also coach quarterbacks
for Oklahoma. Before going to East Carolina, Riley was either receivers or running backs coach at Texas Tech.
Other than that, just don't know much about the guy.

Funny thing is, I jokingly stated the same thing when the first committee rankings came out. Why should hoops get all the glory, LOL.

Clover, he was receivers coach at Tech for three seasons. Good snag by Stoops, should put some pep in Knight's step next season, but gonna take a bunch more than that. GS and I have gone back and forth on this, but my gut tells me Bobby is now living on the fault line.

Riley was the coach who developed Crabtree at Tech. OU should have a more pass oriented attack next year. I'm just not sure if that's good or bad with the talented stable of running backs we have coming back.

BALANCE my good friend, BALANCE! Knight threw 14 TD's and 12 picks this season. Improve those numbers and Perine and Mixon will be able to run all damn day long. I'm certain that's what Stoops has in mind.....but do agree, D wins championships and they're gonna have to step it up there.

They would have had they not beaten the shit out of Wisky in the Big 10 championship, that's no secret. Needs to be 8 though, ya can't be giving anyone a bye, that just makes it a pro-playoff, phuck that.

honestly i have no problem with 6 since it actually makes being ranked #1 or #2 (bye week) more important than 3 or 4....but then when it's 6 people want 8, when it's 8 people want 12, when it's 12 people want 16

just look at the ncaa tourney. started as 8 teams! then 16, then 22, 25, 32, 48, 52...etc etc....then when it was 64 it STILL wasn't good enough so it's now 68 with discussion around moving it to 96.

personally i hate playoffs...i'm a soccer guy...if you don't know who the best team is after 40 games just look at the one with the most points = Champion

doesn't work as well with 12-14 game sports, of course, but no doubt the ball is rolling and we'll end up with 16 until they find a way to eek out another few million by moving it to 32. Playoffs, like they have in nhl, mlb, nfl, ncaab more times than not give a title to above average teams that go on a nice run and not the truly deserving team (see uconn, la kings, sf giants, ny giants, etc, etc). in no year in the history of modern college football has there been an undeserving champ. Can't say the same about the sports that rely on playoffs with a ridiculously large % of teams playing in them. after 162 games we supposedly still have 1/3 of MLB teams worthy of a title? c'mon! and then look what happens....the #10 team happens to go on a nice run for a trophy. IMO it totally waters down the trophy. if playing 162 games only KO's 2/3 of the field then wtf they playing so many games for?

i'm just an anti-playoffs guy... as they never stop expanding. if they would write up a 6-teamer with 1-2 given bye weeks and guarantee they would never expand i'd be happy. but it's out of control in us sports....follow the money
