These were the rankings heading into the tournament:

1.Brazil
3.Netherlands
4.Mexico
5.Spain
7.Portugal
8.France
9.Argentina
10.England
13.Italy
16.Sweden
19.Germany
35.Switzerland
39.Ecuador
42.Australia
45.Ukraine
48.Ghana

..just goes to show, how FIFA needs to change the way they arrive with these figures.

After watching 14 days worth of matches, one can see how far off the mark the Federation currently are.

:pucking:

FIFA ranking are based on the country's body of work, at all levels, sub-17 youth on up.

Yet it still makes zero sense to me

Actually, this is better than the NCAA BASKETBALL seedings.

As I have stated many times, the NCAA BB tourney is a COMPLETE JOKE and the American public falls for it.

Hilarious!

Sal,
Its not as if they dont know or are somehow stupid but they are trying to promote International Soccer on a constant basis, not just every Four Years.
These rankings are based on performances in every Game, if Teams dont want to play then good luck to them. However having the Pasta Bashers at 13 is being to kind to the Cry babies. :drink:

Definately Sal. The bookmakers should do the rankings, I can't remember all of them, but I think the top 4 were like

+300 Brasil
+800 England
+850 Argentina
+850 Germany

Those look pretty good about now, aside from the Michael Owen injury, but that's 20/20.

If BRAZIL meets GERMANY.............that will be one HELLUVA match-up in GERMANY.

That would be the final, but look out for Germany/Argentina in the quarter finals. Whoever wins should get through to the finals.

You have to understand what they are trying to do. You ask any Irish Fan what sort of shit their in now and you would see its no joke. Basically if you want to play the " it doesnt matter a fuck" game, make sure you win your qualifiers or you are in the Shit, big time. :drink:

Do you think England worth +800? They can't beat Netherlands. The UK bookmakers set this odds so as to make their fans happy.

My semi-finals prediction :

Germany vs Italy

Netherlands vs Brazil

Your not a sports fan then.

ALL big league/big time sports are GREAT in my opinion.

To make a statement that "hockey blows" is ridiculous in my opinion.

Come down to Tampa and I will treat you to a LIGHTNING game........just dont bring that boozer Illini with you.

Augustus,
No. My only bet in the past 5 months has been on Argentina to win the WC. They've won 4 of the past 6 junior championships and have, in large part, that same young team.

I think England and Italy were/are both overrated.

Portugal send home the hapless Dutch this weekend. Their ball control style is a nice style but they dont have the athletes they did in 98 to really break a decent defense IMO. England's whole team has had one stand out thus far, Cole, so agree with you there.

Of the remaining teams all are pretty sound and discliplined,so its gonna take some creativity and individual playmakers. Look no farther than Brazil, Germany, or Argentina

Not sure if ITALY is even overrated.........they are not considered a remote threat by most right?

Not too many teams that if down a goal could beat Italy, but conversely, dont think they have enough offensive power to do much if down a goal. Sound defense probably best left
