Fedor says thanks, but no thanks to UFC and Dana White

If UFC wants to be as elite as boxing they can't let the best fighter in the world fight somewhere else. This is embarrassing for UFC.

For those who don't know, Fedor is considered to be the greats MMA fighter of all-time by some and is considered to be the best MMA fighter in the world today.

You obviously are not aware of all the facts of the Fedor situation. UFC threw the biggest contract by far at him but his management company wouldn't settle for anything less than a co-promotion. UFC doesn't co-promote with wannabe MMA organizations looking to make their name and challenge the UFC. Plus M-1 Global (the management company) wanted to get half of the revenue for the show everytime Fedor fights.

Just unreasonable BS. Don't blame the UFC. They gave Fedor everything a normal fighter who actually wants to test himself against the best could have asked for.

Fedor wanted to be compensated like a Boxer. He didn't want his rights to be owned by UFC. That's fine. You think it's OK for people to see merchandise and not receive benefits for it? UFC fighters are not compensated well enough, IMO.

Fedor is trying to build a brand that he can make money off of when hes done fighting, the UFC is not going to help establish another company to compete against 5 yrs down the road, just doesnt make sense.

I compare it with Jordan. Jordan could play basketball in the NBA, but that's all he did for the NBA. He brought in revenue because he was Jordan, but he owned his own brand and established himself that way.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has done a similar thing but on a lesser scale; so has De La Hoya. They created their own image and made money off of it, but they made money for their sport by growing their image. UFC isn't smart enough to see that, IMO.

The UFC doesn't want him fighting in other organizations or representing other organizations. There is nothing stopping him from using his name to make money though. Randy Couture makes a shit ton off his Extreme Couture series of gyms. Couture also has a clothing line. Rampage has a big deal with Toyo Tires. BJ Penn makes a ton of money off his name from his gym and from his clothing deal with RVCA. These guys all have brands just fine.

So what exactly does the UFC limit? They just don't want their signed fighters representing other competing organizations. It's not that nutty of a concept.

That's a better comparison and I understand now. Better than the comparison I gave at least, and that's all that matters. I understand what you're saying and that does sound nuts of Fedor. It's still not a good thing when the best fighter in the world doesn't want to fight in the "best league" for MMA in the world. It looks bad for MMA, IMO.

I don't know how true or untrue this theory is, but couldn't part of Fedor asking so much from the UFC be for the sole purpose of justifying his refusal? Maybe he's comfortable where he is... He is important in his country, and not just for his fighting prowess.

Like I said, I have seen just about all his fights and really think he's a great fighter - but I know nothing about his motivations as a man (he does have a family I believe).

Arguably the most ignorant comment I have ever read regarding the UFC.

Dana White is the UFC. He made the company what it is through moves like the one he is making with Fedor.

To all the people that talk crap on Dana... You do realize the Ferttita brothers would never allow in a million years for an Event to be co promoted with an outside Russian company. Reason being that they own the Station casinos in Vegas and they can't risk promoting with anyone outside of themselves. Bad business.
