I have the 2nd overall selection in my draft. Who would you choose assuming that Ricky Williams is the number one pick. I want a stud runningback but I'm concerned about the injuries to Holmes and Faulk last year which would leave me with Portis or Tomlinson. Anyone have any insight or knowledge about the injuries or who would be the best choice.
I wouldn't take Holmes second due to the injury.
I'd suggest to go with Tomlinson to be on the safe side. With the signing of Boston and another year under Brees' belt, LT should put up some very impressive numbers. In Portis' case, he will do well but I think LT will do better.
Take James first, or Faulk second, in the second round if they're still around; unless one of the top 4 WRs or top 5 QBs are available. Just do it! You won't be sorry as they are both hungry to rule the league.

I don't want to blow my own horn here, but fantasy football is one of my strong points. If I am not here I am on a ff board.
Tomlinson IMO is the pick to take second. As a matter of fact if I had #1 I would take a strong look at him over Williams. He gets so many touches and is an every down back.
Depending on when the draft is Holmes could be another option. At this point his injury is still a question. If you can see a few preseason games and workouts and they are good, Holmes is a great choice.
I am down more than others on both Faulk and Portis. Faulk can't seem to make it all 16 games. He still has the 4 TD game potential, but the injury bug bites often. IMO it is too much risk for a #2 overall pick.
Portis is a Denver RB. Shannahan loves to mix things up. Now with the Snake as the signal caller they might try to open the field up a bit more. Also, don't forget that Denver drafted Quentin Griffin in the forth round. Shanny loves his RB's and loves to mix it up. Mike Anderson is still there as well. All that being said, Portis is a stud, but I don't know that I trust the system.

Each team has basically one QB. Although there is a big difference in your #1 and your #32 there is a large area of equality (small disparity) from the #5ish to #12ish.
Switch to RB's. More and more teams are going to a RBBC (running back by committee) type backfield. That being said, there are probably roughly 10 that have a RB that stays in all the time (or most passing downs as well as running downs). If you take a look at say the number 5 guy (one of any listed above) and the #12 guy there is a lot bigger gap.
Along with those examples, most fantasy leagues start more than one RB but only start one QB. That means if you draft a QB first, you are getting second and third rate RB's. If you draft a RB first (and I like to try to get one in the second round too) you can still get a quality QB in the third, forth or even fifth round. If you don't believe me, look at some fantasy mock drafts. Many "experts" will agree with this theory most commonly known as "The Running Back Theory).
