Fant Hockey question...Why are PIM "good"?

Was just educated yesterday in the RxFantasypux thread that PIM category is ranked best for team with most PIM.

Why are penalty minutes perceived as good?

In real life hockey that is....which I presume is why a Fantasy format would reward PIM

To novice Barman, PIM hinder a team since of course it produces a 4 on 5 skater matchup.

I think there is something to be said for an all around power forward type player that can get you 30 goals and mix it up with some fights. Kind of rare these days but guys like Shanahan in their primes fit the bill. So to not hinder your team, find those guys that make a good combo of scorer and mixes it up

Thanks VFAN...but I'm still unclear as to overall why having more PIM would be perceived as a good thing for a team, since it leads to a man disadvantage for anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes (or even 10 in rare occasions).

Meanwhile, gotta review my already drafted Yahoo Roto team and see about chopping a couple of the lower ranked guys in exchange for some high PIM guys.

What difference does it make what it's "perceived" to mean? High PIM's just make you have to do your homework a little longer as most guys with high PIM's have terrible "other" stats. So it's all or nothing for the most part. If you choose NOT to draft a tough guy...you can pretty much concede the PIM category if your opponent has one or has guys like Iginla or Shanahan in years past. Darcy Tucker used to be a good fantasy guy at one time cause he could fight AND put up decent numbers.

I'm happy to take on the challenge of assembling a FH team using any mathematical combination...heh

My bad entirely for entering that Yahoo league draft and not fully understanding the parameters. Like I mentioned earlier, I'll just need to swap a couple of my lower level "other category" guys for a couple that can log some PIM.

If it wasn't for you guys, I might have gone a few weeks without realizing I was down in the PIM category when I thought I was up.
