Sources: Jameis Winston scored respectable 27 on Wonderlic test

Jameis Winston's lofty draft status won't be the only similarity he'll share with future NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning. His Wonderlic test score rivals Manning's, too.

Multiple league sources told Yahoo Sports that Winston scored a 27 out of 50 on the league's general aptitude test that is administered at the annual NFL scouting combine prior to the draft. That's a respectable score for quarterbacks, and just one point shy of the 28 Manning scored prior to the 1998 draft. It also stacks up favorably with several recent Super Bowl winners, including the New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees (28), the Seattle Seahawks' Russell Wilson (28), the Baltimore Ravens' Joe Flacco (27) and the Pittsburgh Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger (25).

While Wonderlic scores are becoming less relevant in draft equations, they still carry weight at some decision-making positions such as quarterback, an AFC personnel source told Yahoo Sports.

But it certainly doesn't guarantee NFL success. For example, former first-round pick Blaine Gabbert scored a very impressive 42 on the test and has struggled mightily in the NFL.

"[The Wonderlic] is a smaller piece now than it used to be, but it's generally helpful when it comes to some positions," the source said. "It's kind of a guardrail – a score doesn't tell you the whole story about a player, but at times it can tell you if there's something you might need to look at more closely. … For me, it becomes important if it's wild, like, way off what I'm expecting.

"If it's 15 points lower than the norm, then that requires some research."

Winston's score falling into line with other accomplished NFL starters shouldn't be a surprise. He received academic All-ACC honors in 2013 and 2014 at Florida State and was also accepted into Stanford during his recruiting process. Winston ultimately chose Florida State over the Cardinal.

Some of the highest scores from other prominent and successful NFL starting QBs include the Indianapolis Colts' Andrew Luck (37), the Green Bay Packers' Aaron Rodgers (35), the New England Patriots' Tom Brady (33) and the San Diego Chargers' Philip Rivers (30).

Some sample questions

1. What one doesn't belong. It will be 3 triangles and a rectangle
2. What is the next number is this sequence? 2, 4, 7, 11.......?
3. Paul has 3 pairs of shoes, 5 shirts, and 3 pairs of pants. How man times can he wear these without repeating the 3? (I am sure agents tell them the formula)
4. Divide 50 in half. Add 5. Multiply by 3, subtract 10. What number do you have?
5. 30% of what number is 150?

There are harder ones but the bitch of it, is it is timed so if you don't answer quickly, not good. Most prob. don't finish

I scored a 32. It is part of the Mensa exam.

None of the questions are overly hard but they are worded to make you think or be confusing at first glance. You are timed, so you feel the pressure.

Kind of funny though. Vlad has been bashing this guy for months. I know he speaks like he has marbles in his mouth but his Wonderlic is on par with many of the greats. Blows Marino's score out of the water.

I don't give a fuck what he scored. He should go in the 4th round but he might be going 1 or top 5. He's going to be one of the biggest busts the NFL has ever seen. All you need to do is watch the Louisville game from this past season to figure out the real Winston.

Next.

Just goes to prove that you can be smart and be a dumbass at the same time. I'm kinda surprised he didn't go to Stanford. The crab legs are fresher out there...

Vlad will continue to bash him. Guy is a walking hooked on phonics infomercial. No self awareness. No brain. Wonderlic is not what it used to be. Gone are the days of Vince Young scoring a 4.
