American director Michael Moore reacts with the Palme d'Or as he is awarded the Palme d' Or for the film 'Fahrenheit 911', while South African actress Charlize Theron looks on during the award ceremony of the 57th Film Festival in Cannes, on the French Riviera, Sunday May 22, 2004.

CANNES, France - American filmmaker Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," a scathing indictment of White House actions after the Sept. 11 attacks, won the top prize Saturday at the Cannes Film Festival. "Fahrenheit 9/11" was the first documentary to win Cannes' prestigious Palme d'Or since Jacques Cousteau's and Louis Malle's "The Silent World" in 1956. "What have you done? I'm completely overwhelmed by this. Merci," Moore said after getting a standing ovation from the Cannes crowd. The grand prize, the festival's second-place honor, went to South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook's "Old Boy," a blood-soaked thriller about a man out for revenge after years of inexplicable imprisonment.

Wil,

THe really scary thing is that the movie presents more truth than satire.

I am very happy for Mr. Moore, he will make several millions of dollars and yet continue to criticize the rich and Republicans in general.

Interesting. I guess we'll have to wait and see if this award is because the film was really deserving of it or if it's a political position on the part of Cannes.

eek,

I think we have different definitions for patriot. What you call patriot, I call political hack. I questioned his patriot status because he's making a killing off his political rants and when that isn't enough he manufactures friction so he can stay in the limelight. How pathetic! I consider a patriot to be someone who makes a positive difference for his country not someone who uses contrarian views to line his pockets by exploiting vulnerable people.

I'll probably see his movie. I'll wait to get it from a bootlegger so as not to support his lavish lifestyle.

A guy that said a few weeks ago he wants to see more Americans killed in Iraq is a true patriot. Can't get more patriotic than that.
