Extra Point Shaving

It's bad enough they moved the extra point back so we have to sweat making these points. Now we have teams turning down the extra points voluntarily. When did it become fashionable to kneel down instead of kicking the extra point? Thur night is the second time in 4 days I've seen it done.
There has to be people somewhere for what ever reason that had 4, 4 1/2 or 5 in the Packers game. Don't they deserve all the points that come with a touchdown in regulation?

If a player decides to purposely miss free throws at the end of a game when it has no bearing on who wins he becomes a suspect in the form of point shaving.
When a team purposely forfeits points (by not even trying to score) isn't that also point shaving? Where's the concern and why are teams allowed to blatantly shave points?

It never became fashionable. It is just extremely rare to see a game end in a walk off touchdown in regulation. It is a total fluke it happened in back to back games. I don't see any reason to kick the extra point or even half to kneel down. They should just leave the field like they do in overtime

why do they need to score a point? the game is over, they won the game. It has 0 affect on the rest of the game because the game is over. they win by 1 or 2, 20 or 21. It doesn't matter because they win the game.

another reason is because if the defense blocks the kick or whatever and returns it to the house the defense is rewarded 2 points. No benefit for kicking a 33 harder

The play is dead in the NFL if the kick is blocked.

In college football, if the defense gets the ball (from a fumble, blocked kick, interception, etc) and returns it all the way across the goal line, then the defense gets 2 points. This does not apply to pro or high school football. If the defense gets the ball, and is downed for a safety, the offense gets 1 point. In pro football, the only way the defense can get a safety is for a defensive player to knock the ball out of bounds in the end zone, but the rule applies to pros.

That rule I think was changed this year. If a player does block an extra point it can be returned the other way for 2 points.

You are 100% right. My bad.

NFL owners approved the Competition Committee's proposal on extra points for the 2015 season.

The NFL announced the extra point will now be kicked from the 15-yard line with two-point conversions remaining at the 2-yard line. The new rule also gives the defense the ability to score two points on returns.

According to the rule change, if the defense returns a blocked extra point or failed two-point try for a touchdown (i.e. on an interception), they will be awarded two points. Under the previous rule the ball was dead on a failed try.

might be wrong but I don't think that extra point would have came into play with any prop or bet.

I know for the teams the XP is meaningless however the rules state in regulation the play must occur so all I'm saying is attempt it! 2 points for the defense doesn't change the outcome.

If you want to throw in the highly unlikely or improbable. What if the QB mishandles the ball before the kneel down and it's scooped up and returned for 2 points? Fact is it doesn't matter they still win. So the point remains why not try to score all the points your entitled to?
What if after the walk off TD they said we only need 3 so forget the other 3? Stupid logic by me "yes" but it is what's happening.

3 games in a row.... far from a fluke. Snf, mnf, and tnf all ended with a walk off.

Not Going for it is all well and good!!!!

And will probaly become the normal thing to do........... BUT DO NOT LET ME CATCH a team that Previously did not go for it ....Then go for it in another game!!

We are looking for consisentcy here ...

Ive seen this in the Past i---- where a Coach who would always Kneel down at the end of a game when it was decided; then later in the same year go for a first down/touchdown and it affects the point spread ......

Mkaes you wonder..BUT ALL GAMBLERS ARE PARANIOD BY NATURE.........
