Extended stays in vegas...best option?

I want to stay a few weeks in vegas at the end of august/beginning of sept and was wondering if finding a place on craiglist is an option and if anyone has done this before.

I dont' want to stay at a hotel as it can get expensive and see tons of rooms available on craiglist.

Or are their hotels that give breaks on extended stays.
