i think this headline says it all for the knockout stage......
Rogers: 'Unbalanced bracket' leads to knockout opportunity at Euro 2016
imagine the NCAA tournament was stacked with all No. 1 seeds on a single side of the bracket. Or that the NBA playoffs had the Warriors facing the Cavaliers … in the first round. Or that <culink class="culinks" culang="en" href="http://curiyo.com/en/topic/Novak Djokovic" title="" style="border-bottom-width: 1px; cursor: help; z-index: 9000; border-bottom-style: dashed !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; padding: 0px !important; margin: 0px !important; border-bottom-color: rgb(182, 20, 0) !important; background: inherit !important;">Novak Djokovic</culink>, Andy Murray and <culink class="culinks" culang="en" href="http://curiyo.com/en/topic/Roger Federer" title="" style="border-bottom-width: 1px; cursor: help; z-index: 9000; border-bottom-style: dashed !important; display: inline !important; float: none !important; padding: 0px !important; margin: 0px !important; border-bottom-color: rgb(182, 20, 0) !important; background: inherit !important;">Roger Federer</culink> were all grouped together at Wimbledon next week.
That’s what has effectively happened in the knockout stages of European Championships, soccer's second biggest tournament, with a series of upset results piling all the leading contenders into the same half of the draw.
“Sometimes you get strange outcomes in big tournaments,” Germany head coach Joachim Loew said. “But rarely like this.”
The bottom part of the bracket for Euro 2016, as the event is widely known, contains Loew’s Germany team, the reigning World Cup champions and four-time winners of that event to go along with their three European titles.
If they can get past Slovakia in the Round of 16 they will face the winner of the marquee clash of the tournament so far between Spain and Italy, the finalists from 2012, meeting Monday in Saint-Denis. That’s another combined five World Cups and four Euro titles to throw into the mix.
spain, germany, france, england, and italy are all on the same side.........:monsters-.....................................one of those to meet whom in the final? belgium? portugal? croatia?
