ESPN Statement on Bill Simmons
“Every employee must be accountable to ESPN and those engaged in our editorial operations must also operate within ESPN’s journalistic standards. We have worked hard to ensure that our recent NFL coverage has met that criteria. Bill Simmons did not meet those obligations in a recent podcast, and as a result we have suspended him for three weeks.”

Simmons later reiterated his belief that Goodell is a liar, and then Simmons dared ESPN to tell him to tone it down.
“I really hope somebody calls me or emails me and says I’m in trouble for anything I say about Roger Goodell,” Simmons said. “Because if one person says that to me, I’m going public. You leave me alone. The Commissioner’s a liar and I get to talk about that on my podcast. . . . Please, call me and say I’m in trouble. I dare you.”

Thats bullshit.
Nothing at all wrong with what he said.
Now all of a sudden ESPN wants to forget all about what they were talking about 24/7 just 1 week ago.
I guess someone in NY must have got ahold of them.

So ESPN doesn't want their anchors to have opinions? They want them to goose step along with whatever they think?

There must have been 10 other people at ESPN who said basically the same exact thing 1 week ago.

Just when I was starting to respect ESPN.

"It was like watching the guy who ran Enron...he's like Nixon, he's in total denial. The biggest part is how buddy buddy some owners are with him. In 2007, after Spygate, I wanted it to go away as fast as possible. And it did...it's never been explained why he destroyed that evidence. This...feels like elements of that, he has a buddy owning a team, and he tried to make it go away as fast as possible.

If Goodell says he didn't know what was on the tape, he's a liar. I'm just saying it. He is lying. That dude is lying, if you put him up on a lie detector test, that guy would fail. And for all these people to pretend they didn't know, it's such ******* ********. It's ******* ********. For him to go to that press conference and pretend otherwise, I was so insulted. I really was.

The best point a lot of people have made about this is that this is exactly why he fined and suspended Sean Payton for a season. Sean Payton was like, 'I didn't know,' and he was like, 'Ignorance is not a whatever' and suspended him for a year. This is the same exact situation and it's worse! 'Cause he knew! And he's a liar!

This whole thing really ****** me off and I don't know why...I just really hate liars. We know you're lying!...Roger Goodell has no integrity whatsoever.

I really hope somebody calls me or E-Mails me and says I'm in trouble for anything I say about Roger Goodell. If one person says that to me, I'm going public. You leave me alone. The commissioner's a liar, and I get to talk about that on my podcast, thank you. Please, call me and say I'm in trouble. I dare you."

I'm not a big Bill Simmons fan but I hope he tells ESPN to go f#@$k themselves. I just love to see Goodell with tight ass although that arrogant prick probably actually believes he did the right thing in this.

Did Simmons say anything that most of us dont believe to be true? ESPN cannot have it both ways with the OTL story and then this suspension. Goodell is a lying piece of trash that has made the NFL product much worse during his tenure. The best thing that can happen is that he gets fired or resigns

I mean, probably dumb by ESPN but not really smart to dare your boss to suspend you on air.

He sounds pathetic.

Anyone who cares that much about football or the NFL commish situation needs to get a life. Like Goodell is anything more than a cog in the system anyway. Yeah he changed all the rules and "ruined the game" all by himself, lol.

SG dared ESPN and they said sitdown boy.

three observations

1) ESPN thinks they have journalistic standards? that's funny since they've morphed into your typical media outlet creating stories, sensationalizing stories and selling their own biased narrative 24/7. ESPN's journalistic standards are as bad as any news outlet nowadays, and the media is one of the least respected professions on earth. Like all of the rest of our news outlets, they pick and choose when they decide to have standards.

2) Simmons actually thinks he's too big for ESPN to discipline? that may even be worse than ESPN thinking they have standards.

3) I'm amazed at the narrative being sold by the media and the commissioner with respect to Rice. Lets see, everyone saw the video of Rice carrying his knocked out wife out of the elevator. He's tells them he knocked her out with a punch. What on God's good earth did everyone think happened in the elevator before they saw the 2nd video? seriously? does the fact that they're all doing more harm to Rice's wife than he ever did mean anything? It's astonishing how much ignorant hatred there is out there. Goodell should of said just that, "what did you think happened on the elevator when he said he knocked her out with a punch"? He also should have said Rice's case is going through the legal system just like everyone else, and they may or may not take additional action once that process is complete. I don't think the NFL needs to punish an individual more harshly than the law does. He was weak when he made up an excuse, and now he's feeling the heat.

I would say to Simmons "do you think he needed to see the video"? What did you think happened in the elevator before seeing the video? did you think he was lying about hitting her and knocking her out? and then you were surprised he really did hit her?

They all deserve each other
