Well shit, were the last three elections a secret as to who was going to win? Wasn't Obama -750 or something like that last election?

I guess you never entered this thread. Not only is it a hilarious read with hindsight(mnmike started building his reputation as a dumbass in this thread, and Willie99 is exposed for the fraud that he is), Silver is discussed a lot.

There aren't anything to go into any details about sports betting, really. If anything he has to say, I would guess it's probably the same thing every gambling degens already know.

Like I said, the guy has built his reputation on election prediction. The money ESPN offer might not worth to blow away his reputation.Sport outcome prediction is a different monster. Everyone has tried and everyone has failed, except the bookies. Hah.

Nah I don't think that is going to be what his content is based on. Infact I would guess his website will have very, very little reference to gambling lines or anything like that (still an ESPN website)

Maybe an article on win totals or future bets here and there but he isn't going to be ESPNs version of a tout or anything.

It is just going to be a website of his with a statistical/analytics look at things I'd venture to guess...

I love silver but I this confirms my belief that espn is moving in the direction of being more then just a sports network and I believe this is a mistake.

ESPN is getting more and more off topic by the day.

This has happened many times over the years with cable networks.
They go just a little off path and before you know it its a completely different channel with no resemblance of its former self.

Just a few examples:

MTV
When is the last time you saw an actual music video on MTV?

The History Channel
Sign up a few reality shows and before you know it THC does not even resemble what it once was.

I have noticed even before the silver thing that ESPN seemed to be heading in this direction and this pretty much confirms my beliefs.

Since alot of the mlb teams are going to moneyball strategy....i guess they think silver can speak on that aspect.

If that the case, his website would be a ghost town in a few months because anyone can be stat based analyst. But we all know, in sports, stat based analysts are as good as a coin toss.

Well I think he is going to be providing stat-based content, not necessarily stat-based content vs lines/betting markets.

I think there is a market for this type of site if done right, it won't be as popular as a site like Grantland or anything but there is a demand for it.

I'm not really sure, it will probably need some good variety to it regarding subjects. Hasn't really been tried before and audience might not be big enough.

I think Floyd could take on Klitschko and dance his way to an unanimous decision.

Like what? His crystal ball?
I can't wait.

Im telling you espn is in the process of a makeover.
This is part of the new plan to weave sports into non sports programming. Or non sports into sports programming however you want to look at it.

I am more impressed that he is a Uof Chicago grad than predicting the 50 states correctly in a presidential election. About 40 off them, the average egg head could tell. I would be more impressed if he could get 57 in a row in the MLB beat the streak and win 5.6M.

I don't really watch ESPN besides for actual sports, is there a current example you can think of that highlights this? I doubt we see them welcoming him into sportscenter to discuss the 2014 mid-term elections or anything...

I haven't read anything other than headlines about this move. Does it address why it was necessary for him to quit the NYT to go to ESPN? How could he not do both?

They already tried, and failed. Yet they're trying again.
Oh btw, I don't watch ESPN except those live games on ESPN3 through my local internet provider.
