Eli Manning - QB - Giants Giants: Eli had injury for 'several weeks'
Manning was off to the best start of his career (8/2 TDs to INTs, 8.3 YPA, 63.2% completions) while playing through the injury. It's a concern, however, if Eli tore his plantar fascia during the non-contact situation Sunday. Manning says his "gut feeling" is that he'll play in Week 5 against Oakland, but it's up to the Giants. He'll probably be a game-day decision. October 5

Eli stayed inside to get treatment on his right foot instead. Coughlin added that doctors said Manning can't make his foot worse by playing on it, which is good news for his chances of playing this week. Still, Manning's availability against the Raiders will come down to how much pain he can take.

Though Eli believes his current injury is not as bad as the shoulder injury he played through in 2007, he was able to do light work by Thursday and practice on Friday that week. He's not even out on the field today, so it's unlikely he'll even do side work. According to the Associated Press, Eli said Wednesday that he wouldn't commit to playing this week if he couldn't run the entire game plan or if he risked aggravating the injury. We'd plan on benching him for now.

Coach Tom Coughlin said Manning looked "fine" in the workout and that he was "absolutely" encouraged with the progress Eli has made. We're betting Eli plays against the Raiders, but that New York focuses on running the football. There's no sense in having Manning drop back too often on his injured foot when the Giants can dominate the trench war all day long.

This is a great sign that Eli didn't have a setback after practicing on Friday. He's still a game-time decision, but we should have a better idea if Eli is going to play against the Raiders by 4 p.m. ET today. That's when the Giants have to decide if they're promoting Rhett Bomar off the practice squad.

Eli Manning - QB - Giants Bomar not promoted to active roster
Eli is still a game-time decision, but this virtually assures us that he's going to play. The Giants will only have two active quarterbacks against the Raiders, Manning and David Carr. They wouldn't do that if there were any doubts about Eli's availability. October 10

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>The "limited" practice was precautionary. Manning struggled (178 yards, 45.2% completions) in Week 6 against the Saints, but is almost certain to rebound against the Cardinals' No. 31 pass defense on Sunday night.
