I'm not surprised at Eli's benching, they're 2-9 and their offense sucks, but I am surprised it's for Geno Smith.

Geno is not the answer going forward, I would expect they'd bench him in favor of some young prospect.

Eli's career record is nothing special, 110-100, and the Giants have been below 500 in 4 out of the last 5 seasons. Why is he something they can't do without?

They'll ship him off for a 5th or 6th round pick in the offseason. I guess they must figure lets see if Geno can be a reasonable backup for next season until their draft pick is ready, if it isn't Davis Webb. I'd give it 2 or 3 weeks and then they'll finish it out with Webb to see how he looks.

A second-round pick in 2013, Smith signed with the Giants as a free agent in the offseason after being released by the Jets. He played in only two games in 2016 with his season ending with a major knee injury.


Smith told Manning that he supports him and has his respect.


"This guy has done a tremendous job in this league," Smith said. "He has done a bunch of things for this organization and none of that can ever be taken away or forgotten. This is a business and it's tough. My number is up so it is my time to go out there and do what I am supposed to do and make sure I get the job done."
