Volt is 40 miles Electric, with a gas back-up motor ( but costs 40k).

ahhhh okay, there you go.....

so as these get better and better, theoritically, they should be able to go more and more without having to hook into the back up engine.

even at 40 miles, I would rarely ever have to use the back up engine except for trips.

If they work as well as my cellphone battery I wouldn't want to be driving one in a bad part of town for sure.

exactly or get hit in one of those Smart cars... they are just a few inches bigger then the hotwheel cars I had as a kid.. If you get hit in one of those tin box sardine cans you are instantly DEAD. so saving on the electic vs gas won't matter at all, they are nothing but death traps for the ignorant

We should all go back to horses the way nature intended.

Did anyone watch the video I posted? Don't know if that is real but there's no doubt they could be using something better than oil for fuel by now.

Horses wouldn't quite cut it, it's not 1860. Some country ( Mexico) would take over the US, if we used technology like that

Some alternative will come along in a few decades. I think they have hydrogen powered cars now, but they cost like 500k.

It will just take some time. I'd say 30-50 years should bring radical changes.

How about some kind of electric car covered with solar panels to charge it up.

I just think they could make something better by now but they don't want to.

I think the Japanese will be the ones to innovate this. They have almost no natural resources so they are forced to innovate. The US has too much interest in oil.
