Josh Hall was called up by the Reds to start tonight. He was at Double A. Chattanooga of the Southern league. 8 - 10 era. of .347 in 153 innings. Walked 53 and K'd 114. Last start was Sat. August 30th Vs. Huntsville. He went 4 innings gave up 7 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits and 2 walks, no homers. I am tempted to bet against this guy with Pitt -113 but I have been burned doing this kind of thing this year.

never really like to bet against first time ml starters because the odds are inflated and usually they are hot prospets with good stuff and no one has seen them yet.

What about the guys pitching for anaheim and oakland wil?

Agree, these guys don't get called up for nothing, especially by teams in contention.

A's Justin Duchscherer hasn't pitched in the majors since 2001, when he made five appearances for Texas. This year he was 14 and 2 with the Sacramento Rivercats of the triple A PCL. ERA of .325 in 155 innings giving up 152 hits, with 117 ks and only 18 walks.

Angels Chris Bootcheck was called up from Salt Lake of the PCL, where he was 8 and 9 with a 4.25 ERA. 171 innings giving up 194 hits with 82 ks and 43 walks.

advantage Oakland.

GD:

Good points you make there. In the past couple months the new guys have done relatively well. They want to make that good impression their first time out so they can stay in the majors.

That's one of the reasons I'm taking the Dodgers tonight against the Big Unit and the Snakes. Johnson has been on-again, off-again. I'm taking the +1.5 runline. The Dodgers have beens scoring well.

Dodgers also have more to play for as AZ is pretty much out of the wild card race and LA is in the thick of it and can't afford to falter. That's why I think it's curious they would pitch this rookie in a game that has serous implications.
Agreed the unit has been a loser for the money this year, I remember back-to-back days early in the year when I went against him and Schilling at +360 each with the Brewers and cashed.
Wonder what Unit and Schilling's record and units is against the spread this year,I'm sure it's severely in the minus.

That Sacto team was loaded, Harden pitched for them most of the year.
18 walks in 155 IP ! Wow, that number stands out! Impressive. Might be worth a couple unit play. And 14-2, he knows how to win, the Angels' Bootcheck has a high WHIP and knowing he's gonna be nervous doesn't bode well for him.

Edwin Jackson Gave up 1 run on 4 hits in 6 innings, Not bad for a kid who just turn 20 years old today and beating Randy Johnson in his major league debut,LOL.

The differance between the two rooks on paper was a nice tip-off as to how the game might turn out. This time of year we may see a lot more of that stuff. Like I said contenders have to be much more careful who they use, where as teams playing out the season have nothing to lose starting a kid not quite ready for the SHOW.

later, wil.
