The economy shifted to a higher gear in the spring, growing at its fastest pace in nearly a year as foreign buyers snapped up U.S. exports and tax rebates spurred shoppers at home. The Commerce Department reported Thursday that gross domestic product, or GDP, increased at a 3.3 percent annual rate in the April-June quarter. The revised reading was much better than the government's initial estimate of a 1.9 percent pace and exceeded economists' expectations for a 2.7 percent growth rate.

gee, who could have possibly thought this kind of stuff:think2:

I guess that sky falling thing is just gonna have to wait some more. People have been wrong about predicting the next great depression ever since the last great depression, although I'll concede they may be right some day. After all, even the Red Sox ended an 85 year drought.

Don't give up boys & girls, there's always "next year".

but i thought strong dollar getting us weaker oil will be good for the economy

LOL

all about inflation

just wait now that inflation can no longer carry the weight and the rest of the world weakening (many with negative GDPs now so won't be importing as much from us)

was negative in q4 of 2007 before all the fed and governments super near inflationary policies kicked into high gear sending oil to 147

anyway time will tell....but likely negative gdp by q4 2008 or q1 2009

the dollar ain't going anyway fast, but oil sure has been dropping like a rock (except for the current dead bear bounce)

I need more than five minutes to correct my typos. Can I get a special exemption from the five minute rule? It's just not fair to retards like me.

Anyway = anywhere

If Obama gets in...watch how this type of economic reporting will turn right around.

Now they always try to talk it down...no matter what. It's always the economy grew...BUT experts say its actually bad news because...

If Obama gets in it will instantly become..."More proof of Obama's economic policy bearing fruit".

What a joke.

regardless of what you believe like the GDP deflator saying inflation running at a 1.2% clip umm....yeah sure....

GDP always looking in the rear view mirror

consumers kinda got a break with a mild summer and they had their rebate checks to spend

cold winter and no rebate checks coming

well for now we'll see if they get another one through once they come back in sept

plus the recent dollar rally will eat into those numbers......dollar now back to levels it was at in q4 of 2007.....weak dollar has helped keep GDP afloat and corporate profits for that matter for a while....
