If you don't draft and develop one and keep on signing the Tannehills, the Kirk Cousins and Mayfields for 20 years, then yeah, your team is gonna suck forever.

I never understand how fans in every sport believe other teams garbage will somehow improve their roster. Nobody is trading a superstar in their prime, not even in modern video games... unless they are somehow disgruntled/frequently injured, whatever.. which is a whole new set of problems.

Is Mahomes available? No.
Is Allen available? No.
Is Burrow available? No.
Hebert? N-O!
How about even Trevor Lawrence? No?

Sure, trades/FAs are fine if you want to fill in those missing pieces on your roster, but in terms of building a proper lasting winning foundation, drafting and developing is the only way. No more so than QB in the NFL.

Daniel Jones won't win anymore than Mac Jones.

Yet the fans (FANATICS) still want to believe..

I guess, but this is pretty far off from your original point/stance

You got Dak Prescott and you wanna trade him, might be a minute until you get someone as good as him again. As flawed as he is. He’s doing more than 2/3rds of the league most of the time.

Why did Reid waste 5 years with Alex Smith and Vick before that?

Because when you’ve got a solid team in place, just throwing some 22 year old in there and hoping for the best isn’t always the right move,

Like I said maybe QBs will become a less finite resource over time but for now they aren’t, thus why he didn’t waste his entire career trying to find Mahomes and made due with what he had.

Ok, so don't trade Dak Prescott while continuing to pay him 40m or whatever.

Are the Cowboys contenders? No.

So what have they gained? It's a bit like staying in a relationship you're unhappy with because you're too afraid of being alone.

I would say they are, top 6-7 in SB odds most years Dak is healthy. That’s better than 3/4ths of the league.

NFL is not a sport where only a few teams have a chance to win.

Maybe a few more years you move on from him but shit happens. Your idea of wanting to rebuild until you get an all star team isn’t feasible in the real world.

The Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes because they knew Alex Smith wouldn't get it done.

Whereas teams like Dallas believe they can win with Alex Smith.

That's the difference.

If they knew he couldn’t get it done why was he their QB for 5 years LOL

why not just draft someone better than him for those 5 years

Because franchise QBs don't grow on trees.

The Chiefs gave Smith a few years, then took Mahomes 10th overall.

How long has Dak been around? I don't think the Cowboys will be drafting a QB in the first round anytime soon, even though they should.

Regardless, there will be teams over the next few years that do it the right way, draft and develop their franchise QBs, whereas other teams will keep overpaying the same recycled names over and over hoping for quick fixes season after season, then wondering why they never win.

I mean, the Jets covet 40 year old Aaron Rodgers believing somehow he's the answer. C'mon man..

You should give Alex smith 5 years, you should give Vick 3 years, oh wait you should draft a QB forever no matter what until you get a top 5 guy. But wait don’t even need a top QB, just use the system and build elsewhere by taking advantage of the inefficiency.

You lost me, youre all over the place man.

Who are these teams that draft and develop thier QBS the right way?
You say in one sentence franchise QBs don’t grow on trees then the very next sentence you make it sound so simple to draft and groom a franchise QB

WHO are these teams that do it like you explain ?

The team that won the most super bowls the last 20 years draft their guy in the 6th round . Was that planned or just pure luck . I believe the Pats had the highest paid QB in the NFL at the time when they draft Brady . Is Mac Jones gonna be the next one they groom? If not who next and when ?

Miami been looking for a QB since Marino .

Denver since Elway and Manning

Chicago since leather helmets .

KC a team you seem to imply is one of those teams that do it the right way went years and years without a true elite QB.

Buffalo another team that drafted and developed a QB was in QB hell since Jim Kelly .

Bengals Must have drafted 5 QBs in the first round the last 20 years

I respect you guys. (chop, pats)

But to try to rationalize with a guy that believes a certain buffalo bills player is died is a fools errand. Trust me---I know from experience.

Alright, how about Green Bay - from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers. Two elite homegrown QBs back-to-back.

Steelers have a pretty good history of QBs. Bradshaw, Big Ben...we'll see how they develop Pickett.

The Colts: Manning, then Luck...though lately they've gone into recycling mode.

Mahomes couldn't have found a more perfect situation in KC slotting into an offense which earned Alex Smith a trip to the Pro Bowl. It's likely he would have struggled on other inferior teams ending up exposed, and not the player we know him to be today.

The Niners have a great history with QBs. From Montana to Steve Young - most QBs of all skillsets seem to slot into their systems.

Aside from the obvious names everyone mentions that aren't going anywhere, Trevor Lawrence looks promising. We'll see if the Jags can insulate and develop him into a star. If not, cut him loose in a few years and start over.

Bradshaw Retired in 1983. Ben was a rookie in 2004. That’s a HUGE gap. They had their mark Malones and Neil O’Donnell.

easy for the colts who were lucky enough to have 2 number 1 overall picks who were supposed to be game changers. I don’t thing Luck lived up to his hype.

niners? Steve young retired 23 years ago

At the rate you are going, I’m surprised u didnt bring up the dolphins with griese and Marino.

A few teams got lucky but it was not due to some grand plan they just lucked out .

They got Favre from the falcons because the falcons were idiots .

Got rodgers because he fell all the way down to 22 in the draft.
.

SF drafted Montana in the 3rd round and got Steve Young from the USFL .

Both of those examples are basically pure luck and not due to some repeatable plan .

GB had a lot of suckage before Favre . One of the worst teams in the NFL for decades before that .

SF had some of the worst QB play in the NFL after Montana and Young .

Pittsburgh had a lot of suckage between Bradshaw and Big Ben .

Point is these very few examples of a few teams having sustained high level QB play for extended periods of time is due more to luck then anything else

History is on their side. Can’t beat that.

The Steelers are also had Kordell Stewart inbetween, kinda like the Bills version of Flutie. Steelers are always competitive even when they don't have elite QBs, and win when they do.

You're right, you haven't had a stud since Marino.

I just don't believe signing recycled names will get you there. Mostly fails. Even the Chiefs tried that with Montana - fail.

You're not winning anything - and by that I mean a sustained decade long run - without a franchise QB in his prime.

You can try some witchbrew hokus pokus year-to-year with some washed up names like Fitzmagic, Kirk Cousins etc.. but you won't be a contender.

Even the Rams, totally stacked and elite at every position except QB, are one and done.

Look at these names (mostly HOFs):

Super Bowl 23. Joe Montana (Jerry Rice), 2 TDs
Super Bowl 24. Joe Montana (MVP), 5 TDs
Super Bowl 25. Jeff Hostetler (Ottis Anderson), 1 TD
Super Bowl 26. Mark Rypien (MVP), 2 TDs
Super Bowl 27. Troy Aikman (MVP), 4 TDs
Super Bowl 28. Troy Aikman (Emmitt Smith), O TDs
Super Bowl 29. Steve Young (MVP), 6 TDs
Super Bowl 30. Troy Aikman (Larry Brown), 1 TD
Super Bowl 31. Brett Favre (Desmond Howard), 2 TDs
Super Bowl 32. John Elway (Terrell Davis), 0 TDs
Super Bowl 33. John Elway (MVP), 1 TD
Super Bowl 34. Kurt Warner (MVP), 2 TDs
Super Bowl 35. Trent Dilfer (Ray Lewis), 1 TD
Super Bowl 36. Tom Brady (MVP), 1 TD
Super Bowl 37. Brad Johnson (Dexter Jackson), 2 TDs
Super Bowl 38. Tom Brady (MVP), 3 TDs
Super Bowl 39. Tom Brady (Deion Branch), 2 TDs
Super Bowl 40. Ben Roethlisberger (Hines Ward), 0 TDs
Super Bowl 41. Peyton Manning (MVP), 1 TD
Super Bowl 42. Eli Manning (MVP), 2 TDs
Super Bowl 43: Ben Roethlisberger (Santonio Holmes), 1 TD
Super Bowl 44: Drew Brees (MVP), 2 TDs
Super Bowl 45: Aaron Rogers (MVP), 3TDs
Super Bowl 46: Eli Manning (MVP), 1 TD
Super Bowl 47: Joe Flacco (MVP), 3TDs
Super Bowl 48: Russell Wilson (Malcolm Smith), 2TDs
Super Bowl 49: Tom Brady (MVP), 4TDs
Super Bowl 50: Peyton Manning (Von Miller), 0TDs
Super Bowl 51: Tom Brady (MVP), 2TDs
Super Bowl 52: Nick Foles (MVP), 3 TDs
Super Bowl 53: Tom Brady (Julian Edelman), 0TDs
Super Bowl 54: Patrick Mahomes (MVP), 2 TDs
Super Bowl 55: Tom Brady (MVP), 3 TDs
Super Bowl 56: Matthew Stafford (Cooper Kupp), 3 TDs
Super Bowl 57: Patrick Mahomes (MVP), 3 TDs

But hey, I guess if Trent Dilfer won, anyone can. :ROFLMAO:

Eagles could get alot more for Hurts right now than the Packers can get for Rodgers and each probably has 2 and max 3 years left.

Eagles should be selling high... He needs everything around him to be perfect to be effective and the chance of a black qb to keep having success is very low. That is going to be some rough dead cap
Mahomes and Hurts are both black…both will continue to be successful because of their organizations….
