Interesting.....he was talking to Cowherd and says that he basically blackmailed umps during his mlb career

Hired PI's to get dirt on umps and then leaned on them for a smaller zone/better calls.

Wow

That has been out a while now. Read a book or 2 about him. That is just scratching the surface.

He did a show or 2 with the local afternoon ESPN affiliate here (Mike Missanelli) Talk about entertainment. It was MUST HEAR radio.

Ill see if I can find a podcast of it

Another former player who is living in the past......

Always after their career? Not during his playing days does he talk? The PI's if they existed, could have turned their findings into the authority's and then we would have a story...... This is non-sense!

As it is happening not as it happened

Im not sure what your trying to say here but WTF would PI's care about turning him in. He paid them WELL and in cash. There are other players that vouch for this and many other stories. Darren Daulten had a weekly radio show here during baseball season (before the cancer hit him). I have heard him second many of these stories.

Dykstra is a known liar and charlatan scammer. He has been involved in numerous fraudulent financial dealings.

My guess is he did this like once or twice max. One of those things there is a little truth to it but Nails is embellishing to make a headline and be relevant.

Now that I believe. But I believe it did happen, at some point, to some degree.

I emailed the radio station to get the podcast. He has such delusions of grandeur. Totally sociopath but god damn a good 4 hrs of radio.

I saw the interview I think Cowherd is trying to blow this up to get ratings and Dykstra is blowing it up to sell books.
Very little substance in the interview.

Cowherd said it was one of his top 5 interviews ever.
If thats the case I sure dont want to see the other 4.

But in this day and age it fits perfectly so both Cowherd and Dykstra got what they were after.

It can be called doing the right thing which I see what Lenny might think he is doing now? He should have done this then if what he is saying now happened then.......

What gain for anyone now in talking about this? Sounds like PatsFan is spot-on?

Daulton told the absolute best stories about Nails. Apparently one of the best minds for baseball ever to take the field. Told stories about how Nails would tell guys how many and what kind of hits he would get off the pitcher. How long a pitcher would last. Where to stand in the box and field.

Actually now that I am thinking about it, I have heard a bunch of former phillies tell Nails stories over the years.

If this was a regular occurance the way this Dykstra guy liked to pretend it was, I would think a few catchers would make it public because they would hear it. He probably did it once or twice. What is he doing, putting a tail on the 1,000 umpires that may be calling balls and strikes on any given night. This guy isn't JR Ewing.

It makes no sense.

There are what 50 umpires or so that call balls and strikes?
Sure I bet he could probably come up with some dirt on 1 or 2.
But 50? No way.

He said the reason he lead the league in walks was because he hired PI's.

Only way that would work is if he spent millions finding dirt on at least 50% of the umpires.

Finding dirt on 2 or 3 guys is not going to be enough to lead the league in walks.

Another thing.

Umpires talk.

If he did indeed find dirt on 2 or 3 the first thing that ump is going to do is tell the other umps on the crew and those guys would let him have it the next night when its the next guy in the rotations job to call ball and strikes.

He lead the league in walks because he was a great hitter with a great batters eye with one of the smallest batting stances ive ever seen.

He would crouch so low in his stance that his strike zone was smaller then just about everyone else.

He was a very smart player.
Very Pete Rose like both on and off the field.
