how old are you? just wondering. just seems like youre a bit myopic about the whole situation, while being enamored with things that dont really matter as they relate to an nba team.

if you dont like me, thats fine. join the crowd. the list could be growing by the day. oh well. a lot of people dont like it when their opinion is challenged. personally, i love it when mine is challenged. just because you dont like me doesnt mean that im not going to offer a dissenting opinion from time to time. i didnt come in here and tell you your opinion was wrong. i simply came in and said i felt it was a well deserved extension. getting that franchise to the playoffs is no easy task.

It was a joke about not liking you...hence the :toast: .

I enjoy being challenged and discussing sports. That is the whole reason for being on this board.

When it comes to the trades and decisions Dunleavy has made, I just don't see how anyone can argue trading a 22 year old at the time (with multiple years left on a great contract) with tremendous upside for a perimeter player that was only going to stick around for season...especially when you have a need for a PF/C. There is no argument that can justify that.

There is also no argument that can justify him making a promise to that foreign player he visited in Russia when he watched him play against junior high talent. He made that promise to the kid without working out any of the college athlete's here in the states. That is just plain stupid.

Benching Maggette and bringing him off the bench is just to flex his muscles and shows his ego. Whether he likes it or not, Corey Maggette is a special player. We need his offense and ability to get easy buckets and get to the foul line. He is the only slasher we have that gets to the basket.

I love talking hoops...especially Clippers basketball. I have been a season ticket holder for years and a fan for over 25. Last year was my first full season sitting courtside. It was a dream come true to suffer through all those years of losing and finally have such a successful season.

what is the contract (approx.) that wilcox was under with the clips? did he re-up at any point with them or was it the rookie contract? is he still under that base with seattle?

I was wrong about a couple things.

1- I believe he still had his rookie contract which the Clippers extended by picking up the option. So I believe at the time of the trade he only had 2 years remaining on the contract.

2- At the time of the trade, we were in desperate need of a 3 point shooter as we are again this season.

I remember at the time not being too upset with the trade because Dunleavy had been shopping him around for much worse. There were a couple deals that fell through that would have made me sick. Radmanovic did fill a need area. I just feel we could have got more in that trade.

Dunleavy is a good coach and might have deserved that extension. Unfortunate for poor Clipper fans the great coach resides with the real LA team.

CJ,

All the while Elgin Baylor still is on the scene. Why not blame him? He should have been fired a decade ago, now he wins executive of the year awards. As they say even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Coaches who don't have specific systems are overrated. D'Antoni, Nelson and Phil J. earn their keep by changing things up with a set offensive system. Riley gets his players in serious shape with those marathon practices. Avery has done an incredible job in getting the Mavs to play defense. And so forth. I don't know what Dunleavy does. Maybe you're right, he just got lucky with the talent which was around.

Dunleavy is VERY overrated as an x/o guy. Those that know the specifics of the NBA game know what I am talking about. His lack of proper adjustments cost the Clippers a trip to the west finals.

One thing I will say about the Clippers strategy is they don't abide by the way the NBA is played today. Today's game is essentially a two-man game. Every possession should have two players filling most of the options, with the other 3 either setting up for a pick, an open jumper or a rebound. The Clippers seem to play a 4 or 5 man game. Everyone wants to be in the play. Sometimes Mobley is leading the play, sometimes Livingston/Cassell is. They generally don't interact with another player well in the plays though. Sometimes they give it to Elton and basically tell him to do something with it. To make it worse, no 3-point shooters there so the defense can eat up the Clips on too many possession. From an Xs/Os standpoint this is terrible and I could see that being Dunleavy's biggest error.

I use to hate Elgin Baylor and I agree 100% that he should have been fired many years ago. With that being said, he pulled off tremendous drafts and trades 3 straight seasons that built this franchise. The deal he raped Chicago with to get brand as well as the job we pulled over on Orlando to get Maggette were two of the best trades in the NBA in the last 10 years.

We were on a roll with our drafts and trades until Dunleavy arrived and took a lot of control. No one in the organization wanted the Russian except Dunleavy. The Wilcox trade was all Dunleavy. Maggette being run out of town is 100% Dunleavy.

Dunleavy is a solid defensive coach. That is it. I would love to have him on the bench as one of the assistants that can help develop the defense. But a head coach he is not. A talent evaluator he is the worst.

well deserved extension. very few people can handle the egos of that circus group. didnt want to see him leave and then have the clips slip back into obscurity.

I remember this conversation...still disagree wholeheartedly.
