Malone was great, but I don't think he comes close to Duncan. 4 rings definitely says a lot about the guy.

The Spurs do all the little things right, plain and simple...even that last play by Manu, he gets the ball running away from the D and drains the clock, intangiables are off the charts.

Duncan is top 5 all-time IMO. He is constantly doubled on offense which takes away his numbers, but he's such a great passer that he sets up his teammates out of the double and there's no stats for that.

On defense, he may be top 5 for his position all-time as well. The numbers are solid but once again, the stats don't show how smart he is when playing D. His traps and help D stuff he does that many don't notice is picture perfect on almost every play.

I've loved this guy ever since he was at Wake and sent me two autographed photos. Guy was in college and still paid for the photos and shipping and whatnot. I thought it was the coolest thing ever when I was growing up. All that Peyton Manning bastard sent me was a facsimile autographed photo.

The problem is people are way too quick to overlook defense and Duncan is so much better on defense than those two guys it is ridiculous. Plus you gotta double him or he scores on offense. Mailman was in a somewhat gimmicky offense where he got so much of his on the pick and roll from stockton. Not saying he wasn't great though, just not close to Duncan.

In a side note, this is why the ratings are so down. SA is just a boring efficient team. No controversy ever, no nothing. That should be commended but they just are not interesting. Plus they understand how to defend Bron making for a lackluster final.

Great post Royal fan.
Yeah, SA goes about their business without stirring the pot.
They are a 'professional' pro team.

4 rings in 9 years = legend in my book.

I personally find it disgusting and disrespectful to call Duncan the best PF of all time and to even mention Barkely and Malone along side his name - those guys are power forwards - Tim Duncan is a "big man" - they are not and never were - Tim Duncan is a legend - a big man which dynasties are built around - just like Russell, Shaq, Chamberlain and Kareem - Tim Duncan is the best defensive player in the league - Barkely at 6-4 was a well known defensive liability - the show has only begun for Tim - wait and see how many rings he finishes with - Jordan could be looking up to him - in 2008 SA has 3 players under contract - we all know who they are - can you imagine any stud free agents would want to play with Tim after the way he accepted Finley and said he really wanted to win just for Finely?

It's not where he stands at PF - it's where he stands as big men and overall players - he's somewhere in the top 12 ever - and is cut from the same rug as the legendary centers - just like Shaq.

Duncan is basically a center in todays ball. And yes top 5 on the winners list. Top ten on the players list.

This day and age there are so few centers any longer that Seymour sort of has a point. I don't like to differentiate between the 4-5 as there are so many cross matches and teams playing a 3 at the 4 now days.

Duncan is listed as center and PF - with 4 mintues to go in the 4th and Big Shot Bob is in the game what position is Duncan playing? - the only reason he's even considered a PF is because top 50 softy Robinson was the center when Tim arrived - Duncan would be the center on any other team other than the Heat.

Today's game has centers that are 3's - like Stoudamire - dude is listed as a center and the Suns have to insert Kurt Thomas in the starting line up because their center is getting relentlessly posted up by SA's PF - Duncan is a true big man - he gets it done in the paint and plays goalie in front of the rim.
