so people that that want to find a sliver of "evidence" that it doesnt matter what you eat you will stilll get heart disease have hitched their wagon to ct's of mummies from thousands of years ago....thats laughable!

meanwhile most americans over 60 have more presciptions than boners (i'm sure it has nothing to do with the high fat high salt highly processed diet)

"Or another example would be in in the cattle industry in the US. They should be eating grass, but we prefer to feed them corn and grain because the carbs fatten them up."

They should be eating grass, but the only reason we prefer to feed them corn is because it is about 5 times cheaper to feed them corn than it is grass. Has nothing to do about carbs fatting them up.

Ok, there is some truth to that, but it doesn't negate what I stated. As any business, the more production costs you cut, the better profit. I don't currently know how much cheaper it is to "finish" cattle on corn vs grass (though I've heard the gap is closing). Subsidies are one reason why the corn is competitive (because such a water intensive crop shouldn't be), but even if the prices were similar, a farmer would probably go with corn because it has a higher TDN (total digestible nutrients) than grass (about 50% higher), so that means the animals gets to slaughter weight up o a year faster. So, while it is economic based, it has everything to do with the animal getting fatter, faster. Corn has less protein and more sugar. Have you seen the two types side by side? There is a distinct more amount of marbeling on grain finished beef. I'm no expert, but since my family raised cattle for several generations in western Nebraska, I inevitably picked up a few things. I didnt like it, but I was often with my uncles on the farm. I've also had the luxury of spending time in Argentina, and although they pretty much grain feed now, where I was and when i was there, I saw a lot of pasture cattle and thy are thinner. I can definately say the same for the cattle in Costa Rica. Thin and stringy.

you said a mouthful right there. The other two are still debatable, imo. My grandparents ate alot of bacon and eggs and lived well into their 80's. Of course, that doesn't really prove or disprove anything. Diet is almost impossible to say what is right, as there are far too many variables that have nothing to do with the food going in.
