More than 1.2 million of your fellow Americans in signing the "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" petition.
Congress has heard the message loud and clear, but many Members of Congress are still not listening to the will of the American people. This is why we need your help to declare this July 4th Energy Independence Day!
This week, Congress is on recess for the Fourth of July and will return to Washington, DC on July 7. During their 10-day recess, Members of Congress will be holding townhall meetings, attending parades, and talking with their constituents in their districts.
We encourage you to attend any one of these meetings to ask your Member of Congress if they support the "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" petition. If possible, bring a video camera along to capture their answer. If you're unable to attend these meetings, be sure to either call or write your Congressman's office instead.
Here are a few more steps you can take to make this July 4th Energy Independence Day:
You can find a new YouTube video, sample talking points, letter to the editor, and other action-oriented materials to guide you at www.AmericanSolutions.com/EnergyDay.
This list is by no means exhaustive. In addition to getting your Representative on record, we encourage you to create your own activities surrounding Energy Independence Day. Your Fourth of July parties, BBQ's, and neighborhood gatherings would be great opportunities to talk to your friends and family about the "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" petition and ask them to sign it at www.AmericanSolutions.com/DrillNow.
Finally, after Energy Independence Day, email us your stories, photos, or videos to drillnow@americansolutions.com so we can highlight all of your hard work.
With your help, this Independence Day we will declare our energy independence. And we give our elected officials this choice:
Either take action to drill here and drill now for American oil or the American people will take action this fall.
Thanks again for joining the more than 1.2 million Americans of the "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" movement.

P.S. During this Fourth of July recess, remember to ask your Member of Congress if they support exploring for more American energy -- and take your video camera if you have one.

typical short sighted americans. no wonder half this country will be working till the day they die.

now i have no idea if drilling will dramatically decrease the price, i doubt it; but going crazy now without doing the leg work will just hurt down the road.

the no brainer choice is methanol. its used in race cars and has near no pollution. dubya wants us to continue slaving over oil though as long as it makes him more money.

There is a lot of drilling and exploration going on.

My wife is back to working as an oil patch attorney a job she has always loved, she had to get outta of it in the mid 80's when the price went down and exploration cratered

Those people who survived $12 a barrel from the 1980s are making a killing in the industry now.
Its $100k plus kinda thing at sea now because most junior oil industry employees got the boot and companies can't find enough experienced staff.

The slogan should really be "Sign the petition now, lobby Congress for 3-5 years, and drill 15 years from now, still pay more because China now consumes 796 trillion barrels of oil per day"

no shit sherlock. the point is will it be a dramatic decrease or not. from what i remember reading they had 30 billion barrels of oil over there.

you guys dont think. methanol is the easy answer. why would i waste time with gas when i can use something stronger and 5 times cheaper to produce.

sorry gtc but with comments like youve made in this thread you lose credibility

Methanol is in fact NOT cheaper to produce when you are talking about an all out replacement of oil.

It may be cheaper as an alternative of say 5% of oil consumption

but it could never be an all out replacement, not enough land, not enough corn. and if there was it would cost more and actually tax the enviroment steeper than gas does.

Next? youre wrong

do you even know what methanol is? you can make methanol fuel out of garbage laying around in your dumpster. and that fuel would sell around 2 dollars a gallon.

THIS IS THE WAY TO GO. IVE BEEN SAYING METHANOL METHANOL FOR MONTHS. OIL IS NOTHING COMPARED TO METHANOL

E85 Made From Garbage Could Cost Less Than $2 a Gallon

Landfill_2

Rather than putting your garbage at the curb, you may soon be putting it in your gas tank.

General Motors has purchased an equity stake in Coskata Inc. of Warrenville, Ill., which has come up with a process that uses bacteria to produce E85 ethanol fuel out of garbage, scrap tires, wood chips, and even recycled foam, rubber and plastic in today's junked cars.

While E85 is currently made from food-based sources, GM says non-food-based ethanol can be produced for about $1 a gallon, or about half of what it costs using corn today — meaning E85 could be priced under $2 a gallon at the pump.

E85 contains less energy than gas and gets 25-30% lower mileage than regular lead-free gasoline. But at $2 a gallon, the price wipes out the mileage disadvantage while also providing a use for garbage and scrap tires— they could produce fuel to get us to work and back rather then get buried in unsightly landfills.

In fact, GM says, a facility could be set up at the landfill that would both produce the fuel and eliminate the typical garbage-depot eyesore. Or the fuel could be produced from tree scraps at lumber mills in the forest, or using lumber taken from homes destroyed by tornados, hurricanes or floods.

Unlike corn-based ethanol, which requires between three and seven gallons of water to produce one gallon of fuel, Coskata says it only takes one gallon of water to produce one gallon of non-food-based ethanol — and the water can be recycled to produce more.

The first pilot plant will begin producing the fuel in the fourth quarter of this year for use in testing vehicles at GM's Proving Grounds in Michigan, and a plant producing up to 100 million gallons of the fuel for retail sale will be operational in 2011.

GM, which announced the deal with Coskata at today's Detroit auto show media days, is holding talks with oil companies to determine which ones will offer the fuel.
