Well, after my future on I Want Revenge busted with the morning line Derby favorite being scratched due to a sore ankle, I came on here and said I didn't have a clue who would win the Derby. As we all know, Mind That Bird won going away at over 50-1 on the sloppy surface. Now, having seen both the Derby and the Oaks, I can see an interesting race today.

This race appears to have some speed up front with the entry of Big Drama who comes in off winning the Swale (Grade II), but being disqualified. He is likely to have the lead going into the first turn as he breaks from the #1 hole while the only other true speed is Rachel Alexandra who comes in off winning the Kentucky Oaks (Grade I) by over 20 lengths but starts in the #13 gate position. She rated nicely off the speed in that race and took command as she pleased and drew off easily. No question that scenario is very possible once again today. However, keep in mind she has changed connections and was never really pointed toward this race and is being asked to return in 15 days and yes I realize all the colts are returning in 14 days. With a likely honest pace, if Rachel doesn't repeat her performance, this race sets up nicely for the stalkers and closers.

Now that brings into play the likes of Derby winner Mind That Bird, Musket Man, Friesan Fire, Papa Clem and Pioneer Of The Nile. It is likely the sloppy track at Churchill Downs compromised the chances of most of these and perhaps, just perhaps, improved the performance of Mind That Bird. That being said, however, I have witnessed 38 Kentucky Derby's in my lifetime, and have often seen the Derby winner being considered a fluke and therefore going off a very nice price in the Preakness. Of the horses mentioned above, I am not totally sold on any of them, but do believe Mind That Bird and Pioneer Of The Nile to be the best of that bunch. Yes, I realize that Borel got off the Derby winner to ride Rachel and believe that was the appropriate move here as she may be very difficult to beat here and will be the legitimate race time favorite and the one to beat. But, I'm going to try and beat her here taking a chance that the Derby winner's race was legitimate and with Smith in the irons, may run her down, if and only if, she has been weakened by the speed of Big Drama. Hence,

#2 Mind That Bird (Win/Place)

All single bets to win.

Silly reason why: Had a dream last night that a horse with a T in the beginning of their name would win, and I rarely ever have dreams..
