Draftkings Rule Change Really Sucks

Over the last few year or so I've been playing on draftkings. Started doing well.....hit for 1500.00 and 1000.00 a few times. I only play the 3 or 4 dollar guarantee ones in basketball. One or two lineups a night.

Ive brought this up before. They now lock lineups after the first NBA game tips. So when a guy like Noel or Chandler gets scratched late.....you can't make a switch. I have a great lineup in and found out Chandler was out well before tip. But can't make a change. It wasn't this way last season. I'm guessing they did this because of the merge with FanDuel and that's how they run it.

It makes no sense and it something that should be changed. Hopefully enough players send in complaints.

I told you awhile ago why they changed it. Because it is tough for it to be a hobby for people when they have to check for injuries from 7pm to 10:30pm and if you don't check for injuries during that time then over time you will lose equity to those that will.

It isn't perfect, but it gives the recreational players more of a chance to win over the long-term.

If enough people complain maybe they change it back, I tend to think for it is probably the right option.

They always say it's a skill game? Or is it just a hobby.

The reason they give is that it's so people can watch the games and not be glued to social media. That really makes no sense.

Why dont football lineups lock at 1pm? You can still change 4pm players in your lineup.

I know what you said before......I think in the end....it cost players money and it's a really terrible change.

Well, I think they want "casual" players to be able to play and making people have to check for injuries for 3.5hrs after gametime might not be great for that.

Your avg bro makes a team for $27, then someone gets ruled out and a cheaper player becomes excellent value, it's putting him at a big disadvantage not having that guy. Whereas if it just locks at 7pm then everyone is basically even in that regard.

Football people mostly know who is going to play and who isn't and it is much easier for people to manage lineups because there are only a few start times. Basketball anyone can really sit out any night, especially as the season crosses the halfway point.

But I can see why you would be frustrated, it does suck to lose on a late scratch that you can't do anything about.

Just an FYI.....granted it's a small sample size but I talk draftkings with about 7 or 8 others and not one of us think this is fair to the player. If a guy gets scratched and you have him in several lineups......it's over.....you won't be even in the low end of cashing

I don't like the change either and was a big reason I didn't play at fanduel.....If you like line up lock, play fd and if you don't play dk. Having a choice was nice.

It is why I wouldn't play at fanduel. Seems to me the merge had something to do with this.

What do you mean by fair? The rules are the same for everyone. Everyone is on the same playing field.

Yeah it sucks to get screwed like that but the flip side is that others will get screwed by not following closely after 7pm.

The site wants to "level the playing field"

I don't think it's fair because this rule means you've thrown away money if there is a late scratch. One that you clearly have time to change if lineups aren't locked. It's not fair to the customer......one scratch and your contest is over.

Like today.....had a great early lineup.....would have had decent cash....Noel hurts his ankle in warmups. Can't change....game over

Yeah, I see your point.

Just saying it is the same for everyone and the amount of "work" required to play is a lot less without having to monitor the injuries.

Obviously the flip side to that coin is the situation you illustrate.

One could also argue it's not fair that you can change a lineup. If I know I am gonna lose a tournament with the team I have I can switch to a below average player with hopes he somehow goes off.

My other concern is.....if it's a skill game.....isn't part of the skill assessing who will get bulk of minutes when a late scratch occurs?

i understand what you're saying about it being the same for everyone and I get that but it seems to me it's "equal" for everyone could be the same if you give everybody the same chance to make late changes. But I understand what you're saying

The site doesn't want it to be too skillful/time consuming, then the knowledgeable players will win $ at a faster rate. They want the "fish" to enjoy the experience and to keep the echo-system flowing.

So they want to make it less of a skill game to ensure it's vitality.

If the winning players have a 8% ROI on avg vs a 18% ROI it keeps the fish in the game and enjoying it longer. And that should = more rake.

Just do the best you can to try to figure out who won't get scratched.
Vit you don't realize this helps you more then hurts you unless you are one of the 1%ers that lives the stuff.

To make you feel better try to remember the times your opponents have a blank spot in their lineup due to a late scratch.

I play on both sites. I have mixed feelings about the DK move. On one hand, I think players who are willing to go all in and constantly check for updates should be rewarded for their diligence. Also, some use late swap as a strategy. Definitely sucks when a player is a late scratch and you are stuck with a zero. On the other hand, I don't mind not having to be checking my phone for player updates throughout the day/night. I wonder if they will keep late swap for baseball? For the dfs player, I think the merger is not a good thing but supposedly it's the only way these guys will "survive".

Impossible. Late NBA scratches often come out of nowhere and for no reason.

it does not help me more than it hurts. I fell 42 points short of first with a player scratch. It doesn't help.

Perhaps they can offer 2 types of games..one that locks and one that doesn't?
