How tragic for Doug Flutie has both of his parents died within one hour of each other.
Doug Flutie and his family had the kind of tragic day you could never imagine.
According to a post on Flutie's Facebook page, his father Dick died of a heart attack in the hospital on Wednesday morning. Less than an hour later, Flutie wrote, his mother Joan died of a sudden heart attack.
Flutie's parents were married for 56 years.
"They say you can die of a broken heart and I believe it," Flutie wrote in the post.
Flutie played 12 NFL seasons, was a star in the Canadian Football League, and of course is also known for winning the 1984 Heisman Trophy at Boston College after one of the most famous plays in sports history, his Hail Mary pass to beat Miami.
Flutie wrote that his father had been ill before his heart attack. He honored them on his Facebook post.
"I would like to honor my parents for all that they did throughout my and my brothers’ and sister’s lives," Flutie wrote. "My parents were always there for their children, from the days my Dad coached us as kids and my Mom would work the concession stands, through to this morning. The most important part of their 56 years of marriage was providing opportunities to their children. They were incredible parents and Grandparents and my family and I will miss them both. On behalf of me and the entire Flutie family, I would like to thank you all for your well wishes and prayers during this difficult time."

My condolences go out to him & those who are stinging from this loss.
