Estimated Nevada Betting On Mayweather-Pacquiao: $70 million

Projected Nevada Betting On Mayweather-McGregor: $30 million

The exact numbers on the total handle of Floyd-Manny are not easy to ascertain because boxing is including in the "other" category as far as the gaming commission reporting is concerned. But in May 2015, when Floyd-Manny was fought, the "other" category total gambling pot was $81 million.
ESPN Chalk reporter David Purdum estimates that $70 million of that was the fight. This fight won't even do close to that.
Why? For that we go to Wynn sportsbook director John Avello.
"First of all, you'd have to lay a bunch of money on Mayweather to even win a little," said Avello.
Mayweather opened at a 25-1 favorite.
"Second, bettors would have to be tentative on the crossover for both fighters," Avello said, especially of McGregor straight up boxing. And lastly, it's just not for any title. That's important."
That's why Avello says betting on the fight will generate a total handle of less than half Mayweather-Pacquiao.

Ticket sales for Mayweather-Pacquiao: $79.1 million

Projected Ticket Sales for Mayweather-McGregor: $77.1 million

The record money fight, Mayweather vs. Pacquiao in May 2015, had ticket revenue of $72.2 million by selling 16,219 tickets at MGM Arena at an average price of $4,451 each. If the venue is the new T-Mobile Arena in Vegas, there are 3,200 more seats to sell.
Count on the fight selling out, but don't count on the average ticket price being as high as Mayweather-Pacquiao. Since the event isn't a title fight, it might qualify as boxing and certainly doesn't qualify as mixed martial arts. The crowd will be sold on it being a spectacle. Celebrities, who have had virtually no UFC fights to be relevant this entire year, might pay the big bucks, but "spectacles don't draw as well as a real meaningful event," said Patrick Ryan of Eventellect, a ticket management firm.
On the flip side, McGregor will draw more of an international crowd from Europe than Pacquiao drew from the Phillippines. We're saying average ticket sold is $3,600. Add up all the seats and the gate is $70.2 million, missing the Mayweather-Pacquiao gate by $2 million.
What the fight could do in closed circuit viewing is a tougher call, but the sense is that Mayweather's name in boxing and McGregor's name in UFC could equal the $6.9 million achieved for Mayweather-Pacquiao, which would be an incredible accomplishment.

The Bottom Line

Adding up all the major money categories, Mayweather-McGregor will give the historical super fight, Mayweather-Pacquiao, a run for its money, but it will fall short.
When all is tallied up, from all the categories, Floyd's fight against Manny will be worth $17.4 million more overall.

Total for Mayweather-Pacquiao: $623.5M.

Projected total for Mayweather-McGregor: $606.1M.

Right on...Connor could not beat any of the 49 fighters Floyd beat to begin with...

Of course the old saying, anyone with 2 fists has a chance...

Floyd wants to retire undefeated.....No way he loses to this guy.....azzkick(&^

I will buy the fight for the entertainment of it all & the thought that it only takes that one lucky punch to get thru...

Also one thing to keep in mind ... Floyd is used to training for 12 rounds and going the distance ... Conor is used to training for 5 rounds (3 rounds in early career in non-title / non-main event fights) and has gassed out when fights go past 2-3 rounds ...

Probably wont happen, but what if Connor knocks him out? You'll all be kicking yourself for missing it. I think much like the fidget spinners, some of you will be secretly watching.

I'll be watching...and I don't think Connor even stands a chance at knocking him out...but if he does...Boxing's basically dead right? When Randy Couture fought James Toney, nobody gave Toney a shot cause it's a different game...and it was over in 2 minutes, maybe less. If MMA Connor knocks out the greatest boxer in the world...Dana's smart for not selling his share along with the Fertitta's.

this is my exact problem with the fight,,, im not sure how the 6 ounce glove moving to a 10 ounce glove is gonna faze him after 12 rounds,,

the reall issue also is this,,, lets say conner rocks mayweather a few times,, that muther effer is gonna run and dance the entire 12 rounds, lol if may taps conner a few times with his baby hands, it wont do really anything,, soooo man,,, its hard not to see this thing go `12,,

Would be more interesting if it was Mayweather in his prime stepping into the octagon against a ufc figher without much of a ground game.

Its disturbing this "fight" will get over one PPV buy, yet another example of how foolish this world has become. This is simply an exhibition/sparring to net these two clowns huge paydays.

I know nothing of MMA but Floyd Mayweather has got to be one of the biggest disgraces ever to boxing. His cherry picking of overrated, overhyped, and over the hill opponents combined with a cowardly fighting style has, imo, greatly to blame for the decline of boxing in North America to that of a niche sport.

Anyone have any thoughts on where the line will be in August? I want to go heavy Mayweather but rather not lock the funds up 2+ months. Seems like a sure bet to pad the football bankroll. I just can't see getting a better price than -650 though so feeling like maybe I should just pull the trigger. The whole fight seems silly to me. My guess is Mayweather by DQ. I wonder what those odds will be.
