I don't always listen to the vet when it comes to taking the dogs life. MY GF had a Pekingese who was getting pretty sick, so we took him to the vet. The vet recommended to put him down. We were both upset, but I told her not to put him down yet since he really wasn't suffering. So the vet loaded him up with some fluids and we took him home. He lasted for over a month, and gave my GF time to make him his favorite food, turkey, and spend some quality time with him. He wound up dying in her arms which is exactly the way she wanted it to be in the end.

We have 6 dogs now. The father of the litter and 3 girls and 2 boys. The momma dies a couple of years ago and it was very hard on both of us. She had Cushings disease which really sucked. She went in 72 hours. Even though it's not supposed to be hereditary, two of her offspring now have the same disease. I'm paying about $170 a month for their medication. I really don't want to see any of them die, but it's inevitable. The death of any of them is going to be like stabbing me with a knife each time. Oct. 23rd they will each turn 11 years old except for the daddy as he is 6 months older.

So I know what you're going through and I know how tough it's going to be. If the dog isn't suffering, you might decide to put off putting her down and let her die of natural causes.

Its as bad as it get Enfuego. We have lost 2 dogs in the last 2 years, one was expected one wasnt. Neither was better. Take your girl home, give her a nice meal, say your goodbyes and expect the next day to be one of the worst of your life. It gets better

I hAve 3 cats. Got the cats for each children had. I never liked cats until I owned 1, 2, then 3.
The oldest cat we got for our oldest son was 18. Had to put her down and it was very sad. The next day I called shelters all over the Chicago area. Our second cat is a Flame Point Siamese, and they are very smart and beautiful. I found a Siamese kitten in Crystal Lake IL and drove 45 miles to buy it as a small kitty.
I brought this little beautiful kitty into the house, and he immediately put smiles on very sad faces. He is the best little animal, and even tho he is not the cat we put down, he brings smiles to everyone in my house everyday, multiple times and I really love him as he has filled a void and is just awesome.
If you can, go and get another dog or animal ASAP. It really will help you bigtime.

We already did partner to help our kids with the transition. We now have a four-month old dane that we rescued from a pretty bad home situation. Now we'll start over with her. She's been a great puppy thus far. Full of piss and vinegar and very inquisitive.

It does suck, have done it twice. And now I have 2 11-yr olds, so time is coming due for one or both of them. The sheltie will probably go first, the other is a mutt and I think she'll live to be like 16 at least. But it is very very hard. GL man, hang in there.

I've had to put a few family dogs down, but my first dog is still going strong. He's helped me through some pretty tough times, and I can't stand the thought of the day when I have to make that decision.

I foster dogs, as well, and have already come to the conclusion that I will only foster for rescues and shelters once my guy has passed.

Well boys, it was tough but had to be done. The process was very easy and the vet was amazing. Got to spend time with my girl before and after the procedure.

Actually kind of relieved it's over and we can move on. Very tough though.
