BEIJING (Reuters) - Beijing has asked hotels and restaurants in the city to take dog meat off the menu for the duration of next month's Olympics and September's Paralympics.

Dog is eaten not only by the large Korean community in China's capital but is also popular in Yunnan and Guizhou restaurants.
A directive from the Beijing Food Safety Office issued last month ordered Olympic contractor hotels not to provide any dishes made with dog meat and said any canine material used in traditional medicated diets must be clearly labeled.


Concerned that canine dishes might offend animal rights groups and Western visitors, Beijing said restaurants expected to be popular among foreign visitors must stop serving dog meat "to respect the dining customs of different countries."


The directive "advocated" that all restaurants serving dog suspend it during the Olympics but made no mention of the many popular establishments with donkey on the menu.


Criticism from Westerners caused the dog meat-loving South Koreans to ban canine dishes for a period of time during the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

has anyone on here ever ate dog or donkey? what does it taste like and is it cut like a steak or what?

as I child I walked thru the markets of CHINA and you would see dogs, cats, snakes, turtles, everything u could imagine in small cages, or strung up on display.

Its culture, they just dont see many of these animals the same way we do.

Some one told me of some stories of when they visited china that had me bawling over in laughter..


first one..They visited a restaurant. It had a round depression in the middle of the tables. And when they asked about the odd circular hole, they were told that when customers ordered for monkey, thats where the head was placed!!! (True story):missingte:missingte:missingte:missingte



Now about eating donkey, she told me that in the back of another restaurant, the donkey was tied to a post tightly and while still alive. They would pour scalding hot water on the donkey and cut off say its rump cook it and serve it with donkey still alive..:shocked:


Now for me i really dont care what people eat, dogs cats, snails, pigs, goat penis whatever. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
Some of the stuff like escargo and crabs, frog legs (yuck!!)and things we eat actually gross out a lot of people from other cultures.

Me personally i love rabbit stew a whole lot. Never eaten a better juicer meat that from a rabbit! Some people find that evil.

Ps.(even if i dont judge people for what they eat, some foods still gross me the hell out. I would never eat a dog or cat or pretty much most animals that dont eat grass..Ok well i tasted gator..but thats it)

I do not care what animals you eat, but eating brain out of a live monkey or pouring scalding hot water on a live donkey is cruel and sick.

Eat all the dogs you want (Except mine) but be humane about it.
