IMO, I would say NO. How can one gamble effectively if he/she is inebriated,

How can you clearly think about what wager would give you the best chance to win and handicap your bets if you are 3 sheets to the wind?

Bad combination. Bad judgement will be made and think about the vig savings by drinking water instead.

Personally, depends on the alcohol level.

I am thoroughly convinced that I am a MUCH better sportsbettor with a blood alcohol level between .01 and .08 than with a zero level.

Anything over that is probably a negative, I would have no problem agreeing with that.

Having said that, being at a ZERO level is much better than being over the .12 level..............again, for me personally.

Some 20 years ago, I personally put on a display at the old EL RANCHO in Vegas that is still talked about by some inner circle of posters here at the RX.

I stopped in at approximently 5pm one evening with my buddy Kyhawk just to play roulette for a few bucks and snag a couple free drinks for each of us.

To make a long story short, I didnt leave that table until 9 o'clock.......the next morning!!

I sat there and played roulette and drank for 16 hours!!

I can only remember bits of pieces of the evening.

I remember on NUMEROUS occassions, everytime a new dealer would come to the table, I would put $500 on black and $500 on red.........and the dealer would be stunned. I would tell them it was to see how lucky you are for me.

Understand, the best scenario with this is that I breakeven and if God forbid a 0 or 00 appear, I would be out $1,000.

I dont recall ever losing one of these the entire night.

In the wee hours of the morning, I was virtually the ONLY person in the entire casino playing a table game............I had like 3 pit bosses watching me play roulette. LMFAO. I am sure I was quite loud. But wtf, there was nbody in the joint.

Remember one time falling backwards and lying on the floor after a tough beat.....sort of like the Nick Cage move in the movie LEAVING LAS VEGAS.

Well, I must have had well over 30 beers by the time my little fiasco was over and I had lost about $1,200.

I remember walking out of the casino and feeling the heat of the sun. Asked a tourist what time it was and they said 9 o'clock and I thought to myself it sure stays bright out late here in Vegas.........thinking it was 9pm and not 9am!

Got back to the Frontier hotel where I was staying at and ordered a $30 breakfast that consisted of 6 eggs, a pound of hash browns, 2 lbs of bacon, and a gallon of iced tea and whatever else( I ordered three breakfast platters).

Got my composure together and went downstairs and bet a dime on some game to recoup my losses.........and it won as I recall.

Long night in Vegas as a young lad.

As one with a VERY LONG history of heavy drinking-in my case the answer was NO-NO_NO and HELL NO! Dry for 8 years, can't say that I'm a winner, but there is a method to the madness. And it's a pleasurable hobby in my case.

The real question is for those here (if any) that were heavy drinkers--(ie Alcoholics) and were not gambling lightly at the time when you quit drinking--how has your experience been?

I didn't give up drinking, but breaking up with my girlfriend 6 months ago has done amazing things to my capping.

Anyone else notice that correlation? Better edge when single, lower when you spend time with the "SO"?

A good question:

I'd say many factors are involved.

For one, how much alcohol, and how well can you handle it ?

Counting at BJ, is an interesting example. Having a few drinks may be good cover, as long as you can still count. You can act drunk, be boisterious, have fun, hell even spill your Heinekien, on the table intentionally, bet wildly, but know what you're doing.

That might get you a 10;1 spread, I wouldn't try it with poker, different animal !

For capping purposes, it won't help.

Its an absolutely lethal combination to be avoided at all costs. The absolute max you should have before gambling at a casino is 2 pints, and avoid spirits. That in my esperience is sufficient to relax you, but enough to keep you wary of what is going on.

I still say, it can be compatible. Less so with advantage play. Getting drunk and watching a game you capped while sober, won't change the outcome of said game, you're not on the team.

PLaying a negative expectation game like slots, craps roullete, etc. should have no effect, as long as you play max coins, just play pass/no pass, forget roullete. Video poker is different, decisions must be made, so being truly drunk will cost.

My old Vegas trick when younger and poor was to buy a roll of quarters at a casino bar, get the drink, just play a few quarters, dash-off when bartender is busy, silver-mine the coin returns, goto cashier, lather twice, repeat.

You could, still can do this. Start with $20-30 dollars, end up with the same, or more, and get drunk.

I've improved, I'm now a degenerate internet gambler.

I swear this is the truth. The only times in Vegas that I have won BIG money have been when I had way too many drinks.
