J man, can you change join date? i actually joined in Jan 2002 i think, i could dig out some posts to prove that. :thumbsup2:
Funny I see you post on that subject... yesterday, there was a thread that talked about old threads, etc etc, so I was curious and pressed on the LAST page of this thread & saw the date of May 2003. (Of course, we all know that we are not talking about same database/servers all those years)

I read some pages and saw YOUR name & your avatar (avatar is always based on current one, which sucks, I think...) so yea, no need to prove it, LOL.

AFAIK, I think I read somwhere that in 2002, theRX had to reset all "Join Date" due to computer/database problem but some people requested mods to edit their Join Date, which was (and presumably still is) possible.

Speaking of avatars, mods/anyone, why can't we view old posts with old avatars instead of having our username's current avatar being displayed? We can't see all of Gyno's old avatars that he change every week!! :Sad Face:

Btw, Gyno, when I joined this past September, I almost could swear your name started as "Gyno" not "Gyne"? Just curious? :ughhh:

Really gets to me at times that I didn't make HEADFISH my RX posting name.

Fishhead is a little more original than Hawkeye 171. Not everyone was brave enough to put their high school batting average behind their favorite sports team. In my case, I put my career RBI's behind Cy. :puppy:

Because avatars are stored in a database and are recalled when a page is opened. The pages at the Rx's forums aren't pregenerated, they're drawn up when called upon. The filepath (a href=) is to xpandasavatar.jpg (or whatever) which itself changes each time the avatar is refreshed by the user. Does that make sense?

Right, it does make sense, I do get the technical aspect of it. I am just wondering why the posts are designed to call up the user's current avatar in the database.... oh never mind, is it because if we allowed old posts to retain the user's avatar at that time, the posts would accumulate MUCH LARGER bandwidth (translation: the posts database would be easily 10x larger)?

That'd make sense. Just that I see in some forums using different forum programming that seemed to retain old avatars based on user's post at that time (UBB or such... here is using what? the bottom of this page shows Jelsoft? same type?)

Thanks, xpanda, for replying. Much appreciated. :)

Not really, I've been Santo since my early days on IRC (1993/1994). There's a story behind it, but I've told it many times so no need to repeat.

I hate French Fries. Chips (the real English word ;-)) should be fat and short not long and thin.

And yes they have Salt and Vinegar.

I don't post enough for anyone to notice if I changed, but I probably would have put more thought into it if I realized I would have been visiting the site as much as I do.

I loved listening to the Phil Hendire show on my one hour commute from work. Ted Bell was my favorite character, and there was a skit I heard the night I signed up. Phil's now retired, and a lot of people probably have no idea what his show was all about or think my name is Ted, lol.

Don't think I would it change though.
