Does anyone think that right now is the most dangerous time of year for sportsbooks?

Think about it, March maddness is almost getting as big of a betting event as the Super Bowl, but after that it gets real slow for the books. You cannot make up a losing year if your a sportsbook during baseball season. This is the perfect time of the year to exit if your a slumping book, even more so then after the SuperBowl. At least after the SuperBowl the books have early season basketball, and March Maddness to help right the ship. Does anyone else have this belief, or am I just off base?

Makes sense to me....it's definitely my withdrawal season and so any strain I put on books is all done right around now.

Do you really think that you put any strain on the books you withdraw from? Serious question; no sarcasm.

Casing,

I wouldn't think so, but if you consider that over half of the books out there often have trouble processing a $2500 withdrawal smoothly (and even some Rx books sometimes, which are supposed to be the cream of the crop), then one sometimes wonders...

But I did not mean to imply that I put any special strain on them. What I meant was that any strain, however little it may be, comes now, so if there are many others like me, then the strain could be significant.

Interesting point. OTOH I wonder how many other morons(besides me) are pouring in the funds because "I can probably beat baseball". Keep an eye out for a fat white guy selling oranges at trop/lv blvd this summer. I'll set my o/u at July 16th

....

Well, I think after Football is more dangerous. 1 horrible year can put a lot of underfunded shops out of bussiness.

I'm with Val. The time for the "airport bet" by the books is definitely the NFL playoffs.

They can try to take a shot or two at getting out of the hole this time of year, but it can't compare to the NFL playoffs.

On the other hand, baseball is a full time pain in the ass for many books, and if they can't handle the overheard and\or withdrawals, the inclination to not bother is certainly there.

Stick with the books listed below and you don't have to worry about your book going broke.I personally think these books are the cream of the crop.Between them they have about seventy-five years of operating solid sportsbooks.

Pinacle

Theoretically it could be bad, but my sources say since that disastrous mid-season of NFL, the books have been kicking behind with regularity since then. Maybe another year you might worry about it, but not this one is the word I am getting. If a book goes out of business right now it is almost certainly run by thieves, not by honest guys who ran bad.

Understand, baseball is but a very small moneymaker for sportsbooks.

Very small hold percentage.

Fish,

You raise an excellent point. As many may remember, ACES GOLD as well as a handful of other sports books collapsed shortly after the SUPER BOWL...

From now until the onset of Football is a very dangerous time for some of the less than average sports books...

I would pay close attention to what credible posters are saying...

My point is a retail store does not close its doors in November. When was the last time you saw a going out of business sale before the Christmas season? The answer is never. The bad off books have nothing to look forward to from now until September. Thats 6 months from now. Baseball is a sport where a 2% hold is a great year. There are not many books in the biz that even make a profit from now until October. Wild Bill brought up a valid point when he said that from mid football season till now, the books in general have had a good run. I dont have any real fear about this year in particular, but in general and in theory this is the most dangerous time of the year for the sportsbetter. I know for a fact ESB was once a well thought of book, they quit paying people right after March Maddness about 4 years ago. So thats one example of this time of year being a time of great caution.
