Unfortunately you may have misunderstood my comment. I was very happy to see Dusty be run out of San Francisco. Like I said, he is historically superstitious and manages his team like he has a script for the entire season. No tears were shed here. Very happy to have Felipe Alou at the helm. Love the way he manages each game to win using every player he can to his advantage.

Need I remind Cubs fans

DON BAYLOR
JIM RIGGLEMAN
TOM TREBELHORN

I give Dusty all the credit in the world in 2003 turning things around.

2004 was not a good year for him and he should have shut up Alou and Mercker when Stoney was getting on their a$$ES

what do you want Dusty to do ???? This team is far less talented than people think.

its not like Remlinger or Wuertz will be any better than Hawkins ... the whole bullpen sucks

Everyone agrees starting pitching is the strength of this team ... well let me tell you

PRIOR is the best pitcher in baseball .... we can agree on that
WOOD is the biggest fraud in baseball ... never won more than 14 games in a year, and not even close to the same since he blew his arm out
MADDUX is SO HITTABLE its a joke, he wont get to 10 this year
DEMPSTER cant throw a strike
and ZAMBRANO (who i like) enjoys having conversations with Jesus while he pitches

the pitching is not that great
the hitting is even worse ..... Nefi and Lee are your 2 best players now .... and LEE will come back to earth

I dont blame Dusty for anything this year ..... to be 11-10 at this point with this team, is actaully an accomplishment

Baylor would be 2-19

Small ball wins games. There's a reason Dusty is a great manager & the rest of you are degenerates.

Baker has far more talent than 3/4ths of the teams in baseball. Since he has far more to work with, I think Jim Hendry deserves some of the kudos that you want to give to Dusty.

At the same time, Hendry deserves the blame for not getting a closer this winter. This has been their weakness for 2 years now, and nothing is done. I will blame Dusty for one thing regarding the closer - why you keep trotting Hawkins out to close. It is painfully obvious he cannot do it.

One more thing about Dusty. When they lose, it is Steve Bartman, umpires, Stone + Chip Careys, print media, beatwriters, cold weather, hot weather, day games fault. Never the players or his.

He was the single biggest reason they underachived last year. He let Sammy and Alou do whatever, players take on the media, etc. Far too many distractions and far little focus on the field.

I think when Dusty Baker managed the Giants the only QUALITY pitcher they ever had was Jason Schmidt, Felipe Alou has never been a great manager. What kind of team did the Giants have before Dusty Baker went there? I can answer that question they had ZILCH, Dusty Baker is the one that put the Giants back as a contender, they also come real close to winning a World Series. you shall see what kind of Manager Felipe Alou is after this season, they probably already have excuses, no Bonds. Dusty Baker almost won a World Series with no QUALITY pitching.

I can't argue with the guy's past results. It seems like he is a different manager now than he used to be though. Last year the Cubs were an absolute sideshow with all the shenanigans that went on. Given that Dusty was never considered a master of in-game strategy, if he can't fall back on being a strong leader what does he have to offer?

Dusty, will be ok as long as Prior and Wood stay healthy, these two pitchers can carry a team when they on all cyclinders, dont forget they have Maddux and Zambrano to boot. the key for the Cubs is defintely these two pitchers. if they stay healthy the Cubs will be a real dangerous team come OCTOBER.

Dusty "dumb"?

I say he is. His kid was in mortal danger once, and he was not aware of it.

Maybe I just hit bunts.

LaRussa banging Hudson around in the first, men on second and third, pitcher on deck, one out. Calls for the suicide squeeze. Bunt is popped out and turned into a double play.

Agree with the call??

Tony LaRussa is the king of overmanaging. Yesterday the Cards were down 4-1 in the seventh, get a leadoff double, and the #8 hitter sacrifices the guy to third so a pinch hitter can come up to ground out and score the runner. Cards lose 4-2. Going for the squeeze with a 4-0 lead in the first inning is idiotic. You know that they'll pitch around the #8 hitter, so he's going to get a pitch out of the zone that is difficult to bunt. Just let them walk the guy, have Mulder strike out, and let your leadoff hitter try to drive in two more runs.

I wonder how Earl Weaver ever won then. As for the Choi being worthless comment, seems to me he is doing pretty good lately.
