I remember like 7-8 years ago someone tried to get me into it. It sounded fishy at best then.
Now I see they are being looked into by the Feds.

I always thought it was a pyramid

for instance there Omega 3 only has 330 DHA/EPA per serving.
This is a complete joke and this cost $50.

You can buy an omega 3 at Walmart with twice the DHA/EPA for 8 bucks.

This is just one small example.

I'm sure it's a Big rip-off ... but it was the part they started telling me , if you get a Friend to "Join" you get a discount on what you buy.
to me that's a pyramid

it's not a pyramid scheme. I am not in herbalife but actually one of their competitors. The fact that their products may be overpriced does not make what they are doing a pyramid scam. MLM is a brilliant business model , and just one of the many entrepreneurial activities that seem to be under attack from this administration. Hmmmm

Brucefan, first of all, I know very very little about herbalife.

But I get the impression that it is a company that emphasizes selling "licenses" to sell memberships versus actually selling the product itself. In other words, if I signed up and invested in herbalife today, would it be more advantageous for me to sell vitamins/supplements or recruit my friends and family to herbalife?

Yes its advantages to get other people to sign up.
When you do that you get to buy the products for only 300% more then its worth instead of 400% more then its worth.

Thats what I figured. The popular one in my area right now is World Ventures. Complete scam.

Anyone catch that episode of Penn and Teller's Bullshit where they talk about Pyramid schemes?

It was sad seeing all the people who go into it thinking they're gonna make money.

Be careful, there is nudity at the beginning of the video.

I have no clue about Herbalife, but don't give this administration any credit for sniffing anything out here. Bill Ackman took a billion dollar short position over the past year and has been lobbying for an SEC investigation. Just look at high frequency trading, government doesn't give a shit or know anything about it. Michael Lewis comes out with "Flash Boys" a month ago and suddenly HFT firms are under fire.

I take the meal replacement shakes almost everyday and swear by them...couldnt tell you about the pyramid scam I just order off amazon. Had someone initially try to sell me the stuff for almost double what I found it going for on amazon so that may be it.

I can lead you to some meal replacement shakes that cost half of what Herbalife cost, taste 10x better, and is twice as good for you with 5x more protein.

But if you insist on thinking that herbalife has magical ingredients that nobody else has I can't help you.

Herbalife is not a pyramid because there is an actual product being moved. Their business model is the same as amay, jafara or avon, and most of the other mlm/direct marketing companies. MLMs are not for me but I do have a family member who has had success. What is nice about (most) MLMs is you can make more money than anyone above you. It does not matter where you fall in the "pyramid" it matters on your production. Your income is not determined by your "boss" or "position" ..... now take that vs an avg corp. 9-5 job. Your position pays you, you make less than the man above you "your boss" your pay is determined by him and your income is determined by where you are at in the "corporate pyramid" Not saying one is better than the other, to each his own. Not everyone can do the corp job and be successful, just like not everyone can do an MLM and be successful (including myself) just pointing out facts

I know a woman, she works her ass off and makes around 40-50k doing this shit.

I think its Forever Living, but same type deal. I asked her if it was a pyramid scheme, where people will get ripped off eventually, she said no

Just my two cents.

So if Ackman will be successful crushing Herbalife's price, I will buy me some. Cause I trust her opinion that it is not pyramid scheme and that it is viable
