Does anyone here collect aluminum cans and or bottles for refund?

I am thinking about trying to pick up some extra cash...how long does it take to make any money at this...is there a place I could go steal a huge load?

also, are the lines long when you turn them in? I have no patience@)

I do remember when I was very little my older brother used to collect bottles which you got 10cents each for when you returned them.

I guess they finally figured out that sand was pretty cheap and stopped paying for returns........

We drink a lot of Soda in my house, and we buy those 12 packs all the time. Guess maybe 4-5 , 12 packs a week at 5 cents a pop...will add up over time :drink:

I dont recycle, but I dont feel bad about it because a couple of different guys pick through the dumpster and collect all of them almost daily.

Unlike Rob, I separate my cans and bottles to save the guys a trip into the dumpster

I see a guy ever now and then when I walk in the morning for my exercise. He collects cans. The next time I see him, I will ask him how the market is going. It might be a few days, but if I find out anything, I will let ya know.

I do recycle them, but I just don't bring them back to the supermarket to collect the 5 cents.

People may stare and laugh, but the guy I see will have 3/4 of an S 10 pick up bed filled with cans. They have to be worth something or the dude would not be picking up cans. The dudes I used to hang with would drink a case and half of Bud Light a day easy. Everyday. You should hook up with them.

1,000 cans = $50

How do you scronge up 3,000 cans for a decent days' pay of $150 ?

I return my own cans/ bottles, but don't dumpster dive for them.

Here, in CT they started deposits about 1980, same nickel deposit now,much less meaning, though !

True story: About 7 months ago I had about a years worth of returnables. Long story short, $95 filled my whole paint van. I goto the service desk with the receipts and the lady says "we have a limit of $10, didn't you see the sign?" I said, you show me the sign. She went to the return area and there was no sign, lol..she took the receipts and gave me my hard earned cash hno:

Steal, is the key word, because you'd be stealing out of recycling bins or something.

No way you get 1000's a day to return, and returning is a hassle in itself, with 100.
