8 teams is the solution and I've been saying it for years. We wouldnt be bitching about the 9th because 8 would cover all potential 1 loss teams and conference champions. It wont happen for a long time but it would be the best. No need to expand after 8.
8 team playoff >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
4 team was never going to be enough. and the BCS system never gave multiple teams the opportunity to play for the NC like a playoff would.
Bowls + 8 team playoffs is the optimal solution
It is not going to happen in the near future. Since you think it is so easy, why not explain the logistics to the reading audience. Also explain how you are going to handle the Bowl situation, especially if conferences get two teams into the playoffs and the bowl who they are affiliated get stuck with their #3 team. So much for your optimal solution. It may be for you, but you do NOT travel to any of the games, do you? Here is a good exercise for you. Look at all of the bowl match-ups this season. All of them. Then tell me what is different about the match-ups this season versus the other seasons.

first round of games played at home team site in late December. gives top 4 teams a nice advantage. semis and finals played as bowl games as they are now in early January.
if 2 teams from same conference are invited, they should be kept on opposite sides of the draw. obviously teams #4 and #5 should not be swapped with one another.
this happens all the time with college hoops march madness. a team will move from one seed to another for situations like this.
as far as bowls getting the #3 team instead of the #2? oh well.
