8 team playoff >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

4 team was never going to be enough. and the BCS system never gave multiple teams the opportunity to play for the NC like a playoff would.

Bowls + 8 team playoffs is the optimal solution

It will not happen. An 8 team playoff really screws the bowls. The years that the Top 6 Bowls do NOT get a playoff game, they will be stuck with the #3 teams from some conferences. That will never happen. Besides, you guys will bitch and moan about #9 being left out if they went to an 8 team playoff. Get used to this system. It will be around for a long time unless some type of financial arrangement can be made.

Fuck the old bowl system. It was meaningless and designed to make money and not declare a champion. The new system will be expanded to 6 or 8 teams. We are getting there towards a real playoff for college football.

8 teams is the solution and I've been saying it for years. We wouldnt be bitching about the 9th because 8 would cover all potential 1 loss teams and conference champions. It wont happen for a long time but it would be the best. No need to expand after 8.

NO! They systematically ruined New Years day over the last 10 years culminating in clunkers like Northern Illinois vs Florida St. and spread the good bowls over a week which watered it down. New Years day is back to a College Football Holiday as it should be and New Years Eve isn't bad either. The system the last 10 years Sucked! Now the really old system wasn't too bad as it had good conference tie ins to the bowls and that was usually compelling.

It is not going to happen in the near future. Since you think it is so easy, why not explain the logistics to the reading audience. Also explain how you are going to handle the Bowl situation, especially if conferences get two teams into the playoffs and the bowl who they are affiliated get stuck with their #3 team. So much for your optimal solution. It may be for you, but you do NOT travel to any of the games, do you? Here is a good exercise for you. Look at all of the bowl match-ups this season. All of them. Then tell me what is different about the match-ups this season versus the other seasons.

It isnt our job as fans to make sure the Bowl Committees (corporations) maximize their profits. Conferences are not beholden to them either, besides the length of their current contract. 8 teams is simply a fairer and more logical way to crown a true champ. It also gives us more quality football games. It will go to 8 eventually. Prob in 10 years when most of the current TV contracts are set to expire.

first round of games played at home team site in late December. gives top 4 teams a nice advantage. semis and finals played as bowl games as they are now in early January.

if 2 teams from same conference are invited, they should be kept on opposite sides of the draw. obviously teams #4 and #5 should not be swapped with one another.
this happens all the time with college hoops march madness. a team will move from one seed to another for situations like this.

as far as bowls getting the #3 team instead of the #2? oh well.

Actually I dont think it's a bad idea. It works for all other divisions in CFB and the Pros. And it rewards the top teams while still giving teams like Baylor anf TCU a shot to play for the Championship.

Plus, what fanbase is going to travel to 3 games across the country?

Yup and like sdf said, you dont need to alter the bowl structure any further, but you can still have a separate TV contract and charge premium bowl money for those home site games.

Most watched.... most attended...... most debated..... most air time...... so let's change it..... now it's about influence, politics, and who can make the most phone calls..... don't believe it? Ask TCU..... as an aggregate, interest in the bowl season will absolutely decline..... It takes a special kind of idiot to take something so unique and successful and change it.... so it is like "everything else".

I think this would be a great way to do an eight team playoff. The quarterfinals and the semifinals would be 6 games. Assign those games to the top 6 bowls. You could rotate them so that every bowl gets a chance to host a semifinal. Then, the final game would be like the Super Bowl. Stadiums across the country could bid to host the championship game. It could generate substantial income and maintain the same bowl structure. 8 teams would be the best playoffs for the fans and college football.

Great minds haha this is the exact same thing I said with couple changes...get rid of the comitee and go back to the bcs system for ranking the top 8, or add the comittee to the equation of the bcs..home games for top 4..don't worry about same conferences because it's where you are ranked..if u play another team from same conference oh well
